I could barely hear through the thundering of my heart.

The air was thick between us, heavy.

“You should leave, Sienna,” Felix warned.

I blinked at him, not expecting the words. “Leave?” I repeated.

“This is the only chance I’ll give you,” he said, gripping my hand.

“You’re serious,” I spluttered.

Felix didn’t answer. He did not need to respond to that. He was the most serious man I’d encountered.

“I can’t leave,” I hissed. “Cristian will kill my best friend and her son.” That was the safest reason to cling to.

“So?” Felix replied.

“So?” I laughed sardonically. “I will not be responsible for that. I will not have that on my conscience.”

I watched Felix’s expression change in the moonlight, giving me the same wicked smile as this morning. My stomach turned, and lust coiled deep in my core.

“You do not have a conscience, Sienna,” he murmured, lips inches from mine. “You tell yourself that you’re like them, the fucking sheep out there in this world. That you have goodness inside of you. But you wouldn’t have survived this long if you had it. You’re no sheep, Sienna. You’re a lion.” He paused, pulling back just an inch to allow his piercing eyes to roam my face. “Your cunt wouldn’t be drenched right now if you had it.”

I sucked in a ragged breath at his words. Though I knew he wanted me, I didn’t expect him to speak like this. Acknowledge it in this way.

“You can’t say that to me.” I hated the way my voice sounded needy and breathless.

Felix’s hand not holding my wrist moved down my back, skimming over the silk and then to my skin, underneath the fabric so he cupped my ass.

“You’re betraying Cristian,” I breathed. “You said you’re loyal to him.”

“I am.” His cool tone caused me to shiver. “But you, Sienna, are a woman who would break a lifetime of loyalty. A face that would not just launch a thousand ships, that would make a man burn the world down just for a taste.” His lips were inches from mine again.

And this time, he kissed me.

Kissed. Me.

I didn’t expect it. I’d thought he’d taunt me. Tease me. Take me right to the edge, confuse me and fuck with me but stop just short of true betrayal.

But his tongue moved against mine violently, hand kneading my ass. I moaned as I returned the kiss with all of my hunger, with everything I wanted from him.

The knife clattered to the floor, and Felix’s hands went to my hips as he lifted me onto the island. His hands dropped to the hem of my dress, tearing at the silk, exposing my naked body.

Felix hissed as his eyes ran over me, the only sound I’d heard from him thus far that showed proof of him being human. He wanted me. The kiss told me that.

And I wanted him. Wanted him to fuck me right here, right now, despite what it would do to Cristian and me. It would haunt me, would hurt me, cut me. But I couldn’t deny myself.

Pleasure at all costs.

Even my ruin.

“Tell me to fuck you, Sienna.” Felix stood between my legs. His hard cock pressed through his jeans. Pressed between my legs.

I sank my teeth into my lip until I tasted blood.

“Tell me to betray the only man I’ve ever trusted,” he demanded again, grinding his hips against me. “Tell me to betray your future husband.”

My heart echoed in my skull. If I spoke, if I said what he ordered, he’d do it. Do me. Feed me, sate me. Ruin me even further, if such a thing were even possible.

It would ruin Cristian and me.

It would be my escape.

If I survived it.

Despite all of this, my mouth opened, ready to utter those words. To feel Felix. To have yet another monster between my legs. To work my way under his skin.

But Cristian caught me at the last minute. His image in my mind. His hands on my skin. I lifted my hand so the diamond he gave me glinted in the light, and I used it to press against Felix’s chest.

Even with my training, if he hadn’t wanted to move, if he wanted to take what I was moments away from giving him, he could have. But despite what kind of monster Felix may have been, he wasn’t that kind of monster.

He stepped back until his face was bathed in moonlight. I couldn’t find anything there, not regret, not relief.

I scrambled from the island, not bothering to cover my body, standing directly in front of Felix.

“Are you going to tell Cristian about this?” I wasn’t fearful of his answer, not exactly. Merely curious.

“No,” he replied. “Though I suspect he expected something like this to happen when he left.”

I moved my mouth to speak, several seconds passing before I could force the words out. “Like a test? For who? You? Me?”
