A year later
Madison
I looked over the faces of new assistants seated in my office, feeling proud of myself. I was currently training them, having been promoted to associate. Training new personnel had been one of my duties, and these days I had a lot of work to do.
I didn’t complain—on the contrary—I loved my job. I learned so much and improved my skills. My career advanced, and it was just a start. I loved being in LQT and I couldn’t believe how fast the time flew by. A year! A blissful year filled with many happy memories Grant and I had made.
Grant Lawson. My insides warmed, and I instantly remembered our tim
e together last night. Damn, that man was driving me crazy with his bedroom skills.
I shook my head, telling myself to focus on the task at hand. I was giving instructions as my office phone rang and I excused myself, answering it. “Yes?”
“I want you to come to my office now.” It was Grant and he sounded serious. Did something happen?
“Okay. I’m on my way.” I looked at the people in front of me and smiled politely. “If you’ll excuse me, something has come up. Let’s take a break, alright?”
Several minutes later I joined Grant in his office, but he surprised me when he shut the door behind me, locking it immediately. I noticed the drawn blinds and for a moment I thought something was wrong.
I frowned. “Is everything alright?”
Suddenly, his face twisted into a smile as he walked over to his desk. “The health network we snagged last year wants two more hospitals by us!”
“What?!” I squealed. This was huge news. Not only had that been our biggest project last year, but it was our baby. The reason we got together in the first place.
“Yes! I can’t believe it. You should have heard the phone call I just had. They were so complimentary. They want you on the project.”
“Oh, Grant!” I was elated to hear this.
This meant a lot for LQT and it was a giant step into a better future. This would allow company to grow globally, just like he wanted.
“This is so great, for both of us Grant.” I said and went over to kiss him.
Just as I was about to pull him to me, he became serious all over again and took something out of his pocket. I halted mid-step, my heart starting its wild rhythm as I saw a small, black jewelry box in his hand.
The next moment, he opened it, and I stopped breathing when I saw a beautiful diamond engagement ring.
Oh my God!
He got down on one knee, his eyes never leaving mine as his lips curled into a small, nervous smile. “Madison, I love you. From the moment you came into my life, you made me happy. You made me feel so many things that I can’t even describe them to you with mere words. I need you. I can’t imagine my life without you. Please, marry me.”
For a few moments, I was unable to say anything, staring in shock at him as the love I felt for him threatened to suffocate me with its intensity. I loved Grant. I was crazy for him, and there was nothing more I wanted than to be with him for the rest of our lives.
“Yes,” I mouthed breathlessly.
“Yes?” he asked, his voice filled with insecurity.
“Yes,” I said firmly this time, smiling happily at him. “I will marry you.”
