“I know how she likes it,” she said assertively. “I’ll bring it to her.”

When Gee entered the party in her servant’s uniform and placed the tea tray in front of Lady Sinnott instead, Lady Sinnott looked at her and glared. Gee recoiled and backed away. No one said a word but the message was loud and clear.

Gee contained herself, trying not to run from the room as she wanted to. She went straight for her quarters. She shed her clothes and swapped them for her travel clothes. It was the middle of the night. She went outside to the drivers waiting by the carriages of the guests, those who weren’t staying. She found Jake. He was smoking a cigarette.

“I am enjoying a smoke at the moment,” he said.

“Take me town. I need to go to the bank,” she said.

“It’s not opened at the moment,” he joked.

He studied her face.

“You’re serious,” he said.

“I’ll pay,” she said.

She extend her hand to his waist and pressed closer to him suggestively.

“You will?” he asked, more with surprise than a question.

“Yes,” she said. “Money or whatever you want. I want to leave.”

Jake nodded. He was catching on.

“Well I know you’re not with child,” he said.

Gee rolled her eyes. She should have expected that.

“What did she do?” he asked.

Gee didn’t answer.

“If you’re going to help from me, I want to know what happened,” he said flatly.

“She used me,” Gee replied, clenching her eyes feeling stupid all over again.

“I would use you,” he said coolly.

“At least at this point moving forward, I will always be aware,” she said.

“If I take you to town, I will have to leave as well,” he said. “We’ll have to hitch a ride. It’s dangerous for a woman by herself. Depending on your plans, you’re going to need me.”

“Fine. But if I pay you, there’s nothing else between us. This is an arrangement.”

“As long as I am free to chase all the skirt I wish,” he said.

They shook on it. They made their way into town. Gee half expected to learn the bank account had been a ruse but it wasn’t. She withdrew the contents of her account and opened one up by herself so it had no ties to Lady Sinnott. She and Jake shopped for a townhouse.

The Duke Dominates The Maid

Training Her To Serve

By Virginia Vice

“Good morning, Mrs. Kingsford,” young Duke Rorke Carteret greeted, and the middle-aged servant startled. She wasn’t quite used to being called Mrs yet, as the new head of housekeeping was to be called.

“Yes, Your Grace!” she replied with a deep bow, a blush rising on her cheeks.
