I race around to her window. It’s smashed but her door is intact and opens with a hard yank. Her hair is covering her face. The seat belt she’s wearing is keeping her suspended upside down. A soft cry mumbles from her. “I’m going to get you out,” I assure her. “I need you to place your hands on the roof, okay? Brace yourself.” I yank the blade from my boot and crawling inside as far as I can get. Wrapping a hand around her back, I carve at the seatbelt. Gunfire so loud, it sounds like we’re in a warzone, rings all around us, the metal of the car dinging as bullets hit it. The seatbelt gives, and her weight drops into me. A pained groan echoes through the car as I attempt to pull her out.

“It’s okay, baby. You’re going to be okay,” Animal soothes as I drag her from the scrap metal. Other brothers suddenly surround us, taking her from me. Rage is down by the other window, talking to Animal.

“He’s pinned,” Rage panics.

Crawling back through Drew’s door, I tell Animal the same thing I told Drew. “Place your hands on the roof. I’m going to release the seat belt. Your weight will drop, and it’s going to hurt like a motherfucker.”

“Just fucking do it,” he orders.

“I’m going to pull you toward me at the same time so the metal in your leg doesn’t slice upward.”

“Do it,” he spits out, blood dribbling from his mouth.

Glass covering the roof cuts into my ass as I try to get as close to him as possible. Wrapping one arm around his waist, I pop the button on the belt. His body, much heavier than Drew’s, jerks, but he’s stronger and helps take the weight. I yank him toward me, hissing when the tug of the metal coming loose from his skin makes him call out in agony. Arms reach inside, pulling us both free. Blood soaks into my jeans from the gash in prez’s thigh.

“Get him inside,” Rage barks. A couple brothers take him from me, carrying him away, while a few brothers form a wall between Animal and the gunfire. Rage retreats, peppering bullets into the men trying to gain ground on us. Heavy fire lights up the sky as the two sides clash. Having put the call out for all brothers to come home, we outnumber them. An ocean of brothers descends upon the intruders without fear. If these pricks thought they’d ambush us and we’d go down easy, they were foolish. They underestimated our numbers, our anger, our skill in killing.

I reach one of the trucks. Two men hiding behind the tail end in suit pants and coats don’t see me approach. A rush comes over me as I spray them with bullets. Sensing a presence behind me, I turn fast, ready to shoot, finding Loki.

“We should get a drink together when we’re done here,” he says, coming up to stand beside me. “You should come to Reno. I think you’d like it,” he adds as his body jerks backward from a bullet hitting his vest. Looking down at the small piece of metal embedding in the Kevlar, he whistles and aims his own weapon, the thick barrel containing grenades. “That was a close one.” He fires two shots, the gun making a thud sound before two explosions send a ball of flames erupting into the sky. One of the trucks launches off the asphalt and crashes down on top of another one. A few bodies hurtle through the air.

“I want one,” I say when he smirks over at me.

“You can have this,” Koyn shouts over the noise, arriving with a few other brothers around him. He hands me a grenade. “Just pull the pin and throw,” he yells, doing just that with one of his own. Another explosion erupts as it lands.

That’s cool, but I want the grenade launcher. I make a mental note to add one to my supplies.

“They’re retreating,” someone yells, gesturing toward the gate where the intruders are attempting to flee. The lights on the black Mercedes turn to full beam. I race toward it, seeing people inside, watching the war from a cracked window. My gut tells me it’s the Fallaci brothers wanting to be here for the show but not wanting to get their hands dirty. As I get closer, a man inside shouts at the men fleeing. “Get back here!”

My insides coil as I take in the man next to me. The prick who cut into me at the meat factory. Our eyes clash as the window rolls up. Aiming my gun, I let a flurry of bullets loose on the car but the glass holds. The driver attempts to back the car up, hitting a truck parked behind it. Attempting to drive forward, he hits one of the metal pillars where the gate used to be.
