“What?” She scooted out from under him.

Mateo ran his hands through his hair. “Look, we both went too far. I’d just woken up with morning wood and before I knew it you were rubbing that sexy little body all over me. What’d you expect to happen? I’d planned on jerking off in the bathroom but you were curious plus I wanted to put on a show for you.

So, shows over.”

Climbing off the bed, he wiped his hand and cock on a towel, pulled his jeans and a shirt on before he shoved his feet into his sneakers and tried not to look at Erin.

He’d hurt her with his words but couldn’t stop them from leaving his mouth. He was angry at himself and her. He should have known better but she’d tempt a fucking priest. He winced at that last thought considering his brother, Dante, used to be one.

One thing he knew was that he needed out of the room because everything had been too intense for him. It had almost felt like they were an actual couple.

No way was that going to happen.

She was dangerous.

Without a glance back, he walked out.

Chapter Eighteen

Not only had she cleaned Mateo from her body, but her tears from her face.

After her shower, where she let her tears flow, she’d become angry. What was wrong with him? After each intense encounter, he’d been a total dick and once she found where he’d disappeared to, he was going to be told because he wasn’t going to treat her like shit any longer—no way. Not after the hottest experience of her life.

Yanking the bedroom door open while still feeling rather heated, Erin walked straight into Diego.

Bumping into his brothers like this was becoming a habit.

He reached out to steady her. “Where are you off to in such a rush?”

“To…to have words with your idiot of a brother.” She placed her hands on her hips.

“I’d love to know what he’s done now.” He laughed and chuckled even more when she blushed.

“Let’s just say he’s about to find out that I’m not as soft and innocent as he thinks I am…do you know where he is?”

“I can do better than tell you. I can show you because I’m not missing this.” Diego wrapped his arm around her shoulders and took her to the kitchen.

Once there, she felt her determination start to desert her. Mateo was there talking to Eric and Sylvia, but at least the others weren’t present. She’d missed getting the first meeting with Sylvia and Eric over with yesterday so she’d have to face that now.

Diego kept his arm around her and she was grateful even when Mateo narrowed his gaze on them. She felt Diego chuckle against her as he moved them forward.

“Brother,” Diego faced Mateo, “it’s not nice leaving your woman pissed.”

Mateo glared at her, reached out and pulled her out of Diego’s arms to his lap. His arms went around her waist. “Stay out of it.”

Diego grinned, not bothered at all by his brother’s tone. He patted Mateo on the shoulder and walked out the backdoor.

Her first inclination was to move away from Mateo after his words that morning, but she was embarrassed at having Sylvia and Eric witness them like they were.

“So,” Sylvia smiled, “we’re starting over right?”

“I hope we can do that.” She settled into Mateo’s arms and let him give her the support he offered.

“In that case,” she smiled at Eric who sat beside her, his arm on the back of her chair, “I’d like to officially invite you to our wedding. I know you were going as Mateo’s guest, but I wanted you to hear that you were welcome from us.” Sylvia reached out and patted her hand.

Tears threatened in her eyes. She’d needed Sylvia’s kindness. Mateo buried his face into her neck, continuing to hold her close. She didn’t deserve how they all treated her now—with warmth.

“Mateo has explained everything to us, so starting over is good,” Eric said.
