She kissed his chest and raised her head to meet his gaze. “I feel a sweet ache between my legs and I feel your release running out of me,” she grinned, “so I’d say that I’m more than fine.”

“I love hearing you talk about my spunk running from you.” He nuzzled into her neck. “It’s hot and it reminds me of how it felt when I put it inside you.” He nipped at her neck and lobe. “It makes me feel possessive.”

“I love you being possessive.” Her leg wrapped over his hip while her hands cupped his head. “You make me feel, Mateo…so much…I’m just afraid that something is going to happen to ruin this between us.”

He shook his head. “Don’t worry. Nothing is going to keep me from you and you’re the only one I want. You need to remember that and trust me.”

“I do trust you. It’s everyone else I don’t…I guess I’ll get used to it if this thing between us continues.”

Mateo froze at her words and a frown marred his brows. “If?”

“I’ve never been in a relationship before. You’ve said that you’re possessive over me, but you haven’t said what’s going to happen after the wedding and I’m back in Dallas.”

Silence followed her statement but, instead of pushing her away, he propped some pillows up at the top of the bed and rested back against them, pulling her between his thighs to rest against his chest.

He cupped her face in his large hands and told her, “I want you, Erin. I don’t just want you for today because I really do want to see where this leads us. But I will tell you that I’ll hurt anyone who ever tries to get inside your panties, so that should tell you just how much I want you. I honestly don’t know how to tell you any other way that I want you to stay in my life as my girl.”

Tears gathered on her lashes before Mateo leaned in and kissed them away. He placed the sweetest of kisses onto her lips while she stayed silent. He’d touched her deeply with his words and she needed to let him know that she felt the same, but she felt that if she opened her mouth she’d cry.

“I know, baby,” Mateo whispered against her lips before he kissed her on the forehead and tucked her under his chin. He covered them with the quilt that had been on its way off the bed. “Sleep, Erin. I’ll hold you and tomorrow we’ll head back to Dallas.”

She froze at his words.

Mateo pressed her

closer to him. “When we’re in Dallas, I want you to stay at my apartment with me. Hell, you could move in with me and get rid of your place.”

She laughed in surprise. “You really want that? Me to live with you?”

He slid her down on the bed with him and tipped her face to meet his gaze. “I know it’s going really quick, but think about the money you’ll save living with me. Think about getting to sleep with me every night and waking up snuggled against me.” He grinned and wiggled his brows.

“You’re incorrigible.” She brushed her fingers through his hair, knowing that he spoke the truth.

When she’d gotten on the plane to Montana, to Mateo, she’d known that she would take him anyway he’d let her, she just hadn’t thought that far ahead, other than it would hurt to not see him again.

“I thought you planned on taking the job at the local high school here?” She frowned because if he planned on working in Montana then what would happen to her when he left Dallas?

“I’ll start at the beginning of the school year, which is a few months after you’ve graduated. We’ll find somewhere close by to live after that and you can find a job out here.” He smiled. “I’m serious about us, about you. Don’t ever doubt that. I know it’s not going to be as easy as it appears, but as long as we’re together, that’s all that matters, right?”

Erin wrapped her arms around Mateo’s neck and hugged him close. “Yes.” Her tears were so close to the surface that she had no idea how to handle everything because she wanted this with him. She wanted it all with Mateo: the house, the move to Montana, everything he was promising with his eyes and it looked like it was in her grasp.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

“So why the detour?” Erin asked and all Mateo did was grin.

His belly was in turmoil after the late night confession with Erin and asking her to move in with him. It had been a split second decision on his part, but as soon as the words had left his mouth, he realized that he really did want her in his space. He wanted her everywhere that he’d said. Erin in his bed and in his life. So that was why, before they left for Dallas, he had to talk to Edward Commer, the principal of the high school and set everything in motion.

But first he had to be sure about Erin, her needs and wants. She’d held on to him so tightly after his confession that he was sure she wanted the same but he needed to hear it from her own lips.

“We’re going to talk to the high school principal, but,” he pulled over to the side of the road and turned to face her, “I need to know that you’re going to be back here with me after your graduation, otherwise, I’ll keep driving and we’ll just arrive at the airport a bit earlier than planned.”

Mateo had no intention of letting Erin get away from him and he’d tried to tell her that during his confession last night, he just wasn’t sure she’d heard his underlining message; she was his, end of discussion.

“I don’t want this thing between us to end, but the thought of giving up everything in Dallas scares me.” She paused, worrying at her lip as Mateo felt his heart lurch in fear at her words. Then she added, “I guess when I really think about it, losing you scares me more.”

He had to touch her so he reached out for her hand. Their fingers intertwined together. “I’ll never leave you out in the cold, Erin. You’re mine to look after.” He kissed her knuckles.

“That means I get to look after you, although you might have second thoughts if you let me in your kitchen.”
