Sawyer

After spending an hour with the men of Andie’s family, I can honestly say that I think I fit in well. It was a toss up as to who would be the one to head out to Kasey’s house first, and yes I was included in that.

Kasey is the first through the door and the women start laughing as we all file in behind him. I spot Andie shaking her head as I make my way over to her and move in for a kiss. My hands linger on her hips and one slips down to grab a handful of her plump ass.

I nuzzle into her neck. “I can’t keep my hands off you.”

“I’ve noticed,” she mumbles, biting my earlobe.

I shudder and meet her gaze. “Don’t start something we can’t finish here.”

“God! Please don’t,” Kasey says from beside us.

We glance at him and find him grinning while shoving his mouth full with a strawberry and cream pastry. He smirks. “Thought I better remind you both that you aren’t alone.”

“As though I’d forget. Jeez, Kasey.” Andie slips an arm around my waist and hangs on to me. I have no complaint.

“So Andie,” Mateo joins us, “you’ve finally got your Professor.” He grins. “We approve. Just in case

you were wondering.”

She rolls her eyes as he disappears. “That’s nice to know.” She turns to Kasey. “Where’s Blake?”

Kasey loses his smile and sighs. “He didn’t really want to come, but I guilt him into it. So he’s probably sulking out back.” He glances in what I presume to be the correct direction before he moves away, distracted.

“Blake didn’t seem to be all that interested earlier, and when the guys suggested crashing here, he asked for a lift home.” I shrug. “I don’t know him well enough to form a judgment, but I think he feels like a stranger looking in.”

Andie doesn’t miss anything, and asks, “Is that how you feel?”

“I only met them an hour ago. They made me feel welcome, but they’re a unit and I’m not part of that...yet.” I squeeze her hand. “One day.”

She snuggles against me. “On the odd occasion I still feel like that, but Kasey always seems to know when I’m going in on myself and manages to change that. He’s a good friend.”

“I’m glad. Everyone needs that one good friend,” I say with a wistful note to my voice. “Pattie’s mine,” I admit. “After Mom left, Dad worked long hours to put food on the table so we were left alone a lot.” I shrug when she searches my gaze. “She’s nosey and interferes when she thinks I’m screwing something up, but she’s always been there. More than anyone.”

Reaching up she places a soft kiss on my nose. “Well, I hope you know that you have me now too.” Nuzzling into my neck, she adds, “I mean that, Sawyer.”

I bring my hand up and caress the nape of her neck. “I know that. We have each other.”

Just standing here with Andie in my arms while the rest of her family talk and laugh is surreal. I’ve wanted to be with her for so long that sometimes during the day I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming.

At the back of my mind though is the fact that she’s my TA and that I’m her graduate adviser. I could lose my job for being with her, but as I feel her breathing softly against my chest, I realize that I’m not bothered if that happens because she’d be worth it. She’s worth every damn thing that I have.

“You two are looking awfully cozy,” Eric drawls, a bottle of coke tipped at his lips.

Andie immediately pulls away and going up on her toes, wraps her arms around Eric’s broad shoulders, or at least tries to as the man looks startled before he returns her hug. “Sylvia told us. Congratulations.”

Eric’s grin spreads across his face as he laughs. “She let the cat out of the bag did she?”

“Hmm, so did Erin and Sarah as well,” Andie says laughing. “It’s a right baby boom. I bet Lucia doesn’t know which way to turn.”

Eric laughs as Andie takes ahold of my hand.

“Lucia will be in her element with all these babies, so will my dad.” He chuckles. “It’s nice to have you along for the ride, Sawyer.” Eric holds his hand out, which I accept and shake.

“I wouldn’t wish to be anywhere else,” I admit while looking directly at Andie.

“These women have a habit of grabbing a guy by the balls and not letting go,” his gaze softens as they land on his wife, “and I wouldn’t change that for anything.” He grins. “Catch you around.”
