The view out the back of the house that Violet and I share, is one that never gets old. The snowcapped mountains go on for miles and it’s beyond peaceful. I’ve spent many days passing my time in this exact spot—semi reclined on a lounge chair. I just don’t ever remember sitting here with a stupid wide grin on my face.

Even the throat being cleared doesn’t wipe the smile from my face. I try but it’s immediately back. “Why are you lurking in the back?” I ask Kasey. “Shouldn’t you be with your wife and daughter?”

“I’m lurking because I wasn’t sure if anyone would be up at this time. And I’m not at the hospital because Felicity insisted that I come home and have a few hours of proper sleep before going back.” Kasey drops onto the lounger and closes his eyes. “I’m fucked, but hell, I didn’t want to leave them.”

“You’ll be no help to my sister if you’re as shattered as she is. Sleep. Shower. Then go back to them,” I suggest. “I’m hoping to visit her after lunch.”

“Morning Kasey,” Violet says, popping out through the door, looking fresh as a flower carrying mugs of coffee. “Do you want a coffee?”

He yawns in response, shaking his head. “I need a few hours.”

When Violet meets my gaze, I stare hoping she’ll sit close. She’s looking really hot in my hockey jersey and team socks. The jersey comes to her knees and my fingers twitch to touch her.

Since yesterday, I’ve needed to be able to see her and if I can touc

h her then all the better. She puts our mugs of coffee down on the table beside us, and then gently positions herself on my lap. A gentle sigh leaves her lips when she settles, her face buried in my neck.

Peaceful silence with this woman in my arms has me believing in the future I spoke of last night. I’m not sure why the hell I’d blurted it out, especially after telling her I didn’t want to label what we had. I’m an idiot and if I’m truthful this woman in my arms scares me to death. Because she’s already in my heart and after last night I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to let her go anywhere without me.

I grin at the thought of Roger, my best friend, seeing me like this. He’d laugh his ass off.

“What the fuck?” Kasey shoots up in his chair. “When did,” he waves his hand between Violet and I, “this happen?”

Rolling my eyes, I groan when Violet sits up, but when she goes to move, I hold her tightly and nuzzle into her neck. “Stay,” I whisper and glare at Kasey.

Kasey laughs and smacks his thigh. “I can’t wait to tell Felicity. She’ll be so damn happy.”

“Can we please, not take out a notice in the Great Falls daily?” I grumble.

Violet shakes her head and grins. “I’ll go and make breakfast.” She looks at Kasey. “Why don’t you go home and put together whatever Felicity needs. Take a shower and then come back here for breakfast on your way to the hospital.”

“See you in thirty minutes.” Kasey dashes off.

I grab Violet’s wrist and pull her back down. “I was enjoying sitting here with you in my arms until Kasey opened his mouth.”

“He was just surprised at seeing us like this in the morning, and excited about his daughter. Worried about his wife as well,” Violet says. “But I mean it about breakfast. Are you going to stay here or come inside?”

“I’ll come inside.”

Violet gets the door while I wheel into the kitchen. “What can I do?” I offer.

“You can sit right where you are and watch me.” She grins. “It turns me on having your eyes on me.”

Raising a brow, I grin. “Is that a fact.”

Her eyes roll. “Don’t let that go to your head.”

“It’s already gone to the lower one.” I wink cheekily.

She gasps and tosses a dishtowel at me, which I catch as she slides her ass onto the table in front of me, a serious expression on her face. I wrap my arms around her hips and rest my chin on her knees. “What’s going on in that pretty head of yours?”

“I’m your physical therapist,” she bites her lower lip, tempting me to taste it with my tongue, “I’m supposed to know when there are changes happening in your body.”

“Violet, you saw enough changes in my body last night,” I tease, and then become serious. “I didn’t want you to know. It’s difficult letting you down, and if I got your hopes up as well as my own, it would kill me if nothing came of it … then you went and got in bed with me and you know the rest.”
