She rolls her eyes at me while I’m grinning like an idiot. “I have other memories if you want me to recap.”

“It depends whether or not they involve panties,” she quips. She moves further away as her slim fingers trace a path along the new counter top.

I’m working on closing the gap between us.

“Well, there is that one time you tried that hair removal cream.”

“Argh. Why can’t you remember the time I surprised you with the red lingerie,” she grumbles.

“Oh, babe. I remember that, and if I remember correctly you didn’t actually have panties on that time.”

She laughs. “Panties again. I’m starting to think you have a panty obsession.”

“Only if they’re yours.” I cage her in against the counter. “But the time I always remember as being hot as fuck is the hair removal cream. You were so embarrassed at the party and couldn’t sit still. I remember taking you outside because I thought you were overheating, but then you admitted what you’d done and I couldn’t see straight.”

“It was the first time you had your mouth on me down there.”

I grin. After all these years she still can’t say it, but right now, I’m too busy remembering. “Behind a tree about one hundred yards from Jason’s house. I had your dress up, panties down and my fingers and mouth on you. At least I helped relieve what you’d done with that cream.”

Elise blushes.

I lick my way along her collarbone up to her ear, and whisper, “You still have a sweet little pussy,” while nibbling her earlobe.

She moans, and pushes against me. “Are you trying to sweet talk your way into my panties?”

“Is it working?” I ask, grabbing her ass and hauling her up onto the counter top. Her legs splay allowing the bulge in my jeans to press against her core. I’d bet anything she’s wet and ready for me.

“Not yet.” Her whisper turns into a groan as I rock against her.

“Are you sure?”

“Mmm.”

I smile and start kissing down her chest, nuzzling my way further south between her breasts as the buttons on her shirt start to pop open.

Her hands are in my hair, and she tugs until my eyes rise to meet hers. When I look into them I see nothing but love reflected back at me. Seeing that love brings my raging hormones under control, and leaning forward I kiss her lips. “I love you, Elise.” I kiss her again so she can’t reply. “Let’s talk.”

She caresses my chest and pushes me back. “You want to talk? I thought we were going to celebrate in the kitchen.” She grins.

“We can celebrate soon. I’d planned on talking to you the first opportunity I had, but seeing you in our home sent everything out of my head.” I smirk. “And down south.”

Elise

I smile at Jake’s comment about everything going down south, but my stomach somersaults at what he wants to talk about. He looks nervous now, instead of the man who can’t wait to get into my panties. Now I’m nervous.

“What did you want to talk about?” I dread his answer, wanting to get it out in the open quickly.

“Um,” he closes his eyes for a second before opening them to hold my gaze. “I want you to marry me.” He covers my mouth with his hand to hold my words inside. “You’re the only woman that I ever want to wear my ring, to be the mother of my children. I know it’s a really bad time with all the shit that’s been happening, but I need you to know that you’re it for me, Elise. You always have been.”

While my eyes fill with tears, Jake produces a ring from somewhere. His hand shakes as he releases me to take hold of my right hand. “I want you to wear the ring on this hand for now as a promise ring, and when everything calms down, and you’re ready, then I want you to wear it as an engagement ring.” He slips the ring on my finger. “Do you think that, maybe, you’d be up for having me as a permanent fixture in your life?”

How can he think I wouldn’t?

Throwing my arms around his neck, I climb up his body with the help of his large hands on my bottom, and whisper, “I’ll marry you the second it can be arranged.”

He holds me tight and exhales. “Thank God.”

I realize why he wants to wait before announcing our engagement, and he’s right. One minute I was engaged to Tom, he hit me, then was killed, and now I’m back with the only man I’ve ever really loved, all within a week. I’m surprised I haven’t cracked.
