But it feels good. So fucking good.

I step inside my office and slam the door. Locking it, I feel a rush of pure adrenaline. I start to laugh wildly. I can't control my breathing. My heart is beating so hard that it actually hurts.

"Now what?" I ask myself.

I look through the glass windows. I'm about to be surrounded by guards. It's as if they have something to hide.

As I rush to close the blinds, I see him again. The homeless man. A devious look covers his ashy face.

He's walking inside the lobby.

He has to be insane to walk in here, but norms don't matter much to me anymore. I'm acting crazy too, and he looks excited to help.

The man makes it to the center of the lobby before they take notice of him. Falling to his knees, he spreads his arms and reaches for the heavens, shouting, "I have a gun!"

His hands hold a dark pistol. However, I know he's not going to bring me any danger. He's here to save my life.

I shut the blinds and back against my desk. The hairs on my neck start to rise, but there's no time for fear.

I have my own holy weapon of choice, and it's not a gun.

I open the desk drawer and grab two things: my identification badge and the encrypted USB stick. The one I've been uploading all of the company's data to just in case. Plenty of people would pay a pretty penny for this information.

I just want this place to burn. But that'll have to wait.

Because of that man's stunt, the security guards have redirected their attention. It creates a pocket of time I can use to escape. There's an emergency exit at the other end of the hallway. It leads to a smoking section with a fire escape.

I run out the door and hear a gun shot come from the lobby. And another. Another - followe

d by a crowd of screams.

I push through and hit the back doors, causing the fire alarm to ring.

I walk onto the first step of the fire escape, laughing as I pull myself down to the next set of steps. I feel exhilarated despite being in the absolute worst position ever.

This is the reset I didn't think I needed. I have the chance to become a better person. If I somehow succeed at that, I can do anything.

Maybe, I'll be able to find love. Start a family. All of the good stuff most people scoff at nowadays.

It's all within reach.

As soon as my feet hit the ground, I see him, the man I'd never expect to save my life.

"Raven," he says, wide-eyed and smiling. "We have to get out of here."

"What the fuck!" I shout. "Are you crazy?"

He winks. "Something like that."

I actually snort with laughter. None of this makes any sense, but I just go for it.

I look each way because I know it won't be long until security starts chasing after us.

"Well, I guess this is it, loony boy. You got that gun ready?" I ask.

He pulls out a decorated pistol and wags it like a tail. "Ready as a primed cannon, baby."

Baby? Who does this guy think he is?
