"Put your arm out, or I'll break the bone and shove the medicine into the limp extremity," he growls.

Reluctantly, I put my arm out. I look away as he drags the needle against the skin. Grit my teeth as the pinch turns to the sensation of fire.

"The medicine won't be pleasant. As it interacts with the bacteria, you will try to resist it. That is why I have you chained."

He tightens and clamps the IV down, and it molds into my flesh. I don't know if it's from lack of sleep or if it's because everything feels so unbelievable, but the pressure causes my skin to swell and ache. It hurts so bad.

I suck in deep breaths to ease the pain. "Tell me you know what you're doing," I say.

"I'm not a doctor," he says.

He leans forward and grabs a bag from the floor, holding it up to the dancing light from the candles. "I've got your things in here. Clothes and makeup. I locked your weapons and shields in a case upstairs."

"I take it you took my radio, too?" I ask.

"Your communications device has been deactivated. Apologies, but I had to make sure they didn't track you."

I nod and hold back the urge to scream.

He grabs a tablet, turns it on, and waits for the screen to react. A smiling face appears. "Awaiting your command," it says.

"Xulu, prepare for eye detachment, rapid repair and installation," he says.

The screen beeps and lights up blue. "Eyesight re-sectioning initiated."

"Don't worry. My tools are the best there are," he tells me. "Eyes open."

He doesn't give me a choice to close them. He pries my eyes open and places a long tube around my face. It clamps down, suctioning around the outer edges of the socket. At the end of the cylinder is a red cross target. This is an older model.

"What is happening?" I ask.

"Look into the center target. It'll will be over soon," he says.

I jerk my hips, but I'm fully fastened to the bed. "Fuck, fuck, fuck."

The computer tablet makes another pleased noise. It vibrates before it quickly sucks the eyeball out. Within a second, it drills and installs a new one inside the socket.

The tube unlatches and falls to the floor.

"Jesus." I try to catch a breath, but I choke.

I rapidly blink my eyes, and the pain subsides. He was right. It wasn't as bad as the last one.

Carefully leaning over me, he unlatches the straps and frees my body. He motions for me to stand.

Opening my lips with his fingers, he swabs the saliva for more testing. He scans my retinas and forces me to turn around for him.

He gets really close to my face. "Are you scared?" he asks.

I don't know if I should tell the truth or hide my fear as they teach a soldier to do. He's different from the other aliens at the farm facility. Those alphas were completely devoted to the Syndicate. He seems like a rogue agent. He is devoted to my health. But why?

"Yes," I admit. "I miss my home very much."

"What about your friends? Do you miss them, as well?" he asks.

I nod. "My unit was very close," I say.

"I asked about your friends, not your work colleagues," he says.
