I pause. Is she messing with me?

"You've come to terms with your stay?" I ask.

She leans forward in her chair. "You have treated me better than the other aliens would have. You were right. I understand now, and I’m feeling much healthier," she says.

I’m waiting for the hidden clause. "But?"

"It's simply an observation. I'm not sure how to feel, other than that my room is impractical," she says.

"Your room is cramped," I admit.

"Maybe someday I can move in up here?" she asks.

I lean over her shoulders and kiss the top of her head, breathing in her scent. It takes all of my energy to hold myself back. I want to fuck her.

"Yeah. Maybe," I say.

Looking as though she is lost in contemplation, she glances around the room before speaking.

"Are you going to send me back to the base near Elysa?" she asks.

I hand her a plastic spork and ignore her question. "How are you supposed to address me?" I ask.

"Sir," she says.

She places her hand on mine, leaning forward. It's a daring move, but it elevates my mood, causing my cock to shift and come to life inside my pants. "Yes?"

"Am I going home?" she asks.

Home.

I place two glasses on the table and pour some red wine. The bottle is rare in these regions. I hand her a glass and eye her thoroughly.

She's been through a lot and will certainly go through much more because of me. I'm not sure how to approach this without telling her that we are wanted for treason. Everyone wants us dead.

She can’t go back. There is no home. Not anymore.

"Do you want to go home?" I ask.

"I think about it often, but it's not that simple," she says. "There are people I'd like to see, but I'm not sure I could ever live there again. It just wouldn't feel the same."

"If I took you back, they'd throw me in prison. You'd never see me again," I say.

"Worse," she says. "They'd put you on trial for treason."

So, she’s aware of the stakes...

I nod. "We'd both face a world of trouble. I don't know about you, but I don't think it's a risk worth taking," I say.

“Okay,” she whispers. “You’re right, sir.”

By now, she should understand. This is her home. Me. I have sacrificed everything to keep her safe. Without me, she'd be dead. We are in this together.

She looks down at her food in silence. The truth hurts, but there's no twisting it. We are fugitives, left to fend for ourselves.

I kiss her forehead and motion for her to eat. At first, she slowly nibbles the edge of her steak. Carefully, she swallows. A few seconds passes, and her eyes light up. It only takes a minute for her to devour the entire plate.

"Delicious," she says.
