“Okay, okay, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We’ll end up with one heck of a madhouse if we keep going.”

“Exactly,” I smirk. “I don’t see the problem with that.”

She slaps my arm good humoredly. “Well, you’re not the one who has to push them out, so you would say that.”

I laugh hard, really hard. It’s the way she says it, so sassy and full of excitement for our future. She joins in and then we’re both laughing like we’ve gone insane, as if all the emotion we shared is bubbling out into this moment.

“Okay, fair point,” I say. “I don’t think there’s anything a man can say to that, is there?”

“Seriously though, four or five sounds like the perfect number,” she says with a sigh.

“It sounds perfect to me too, as long as they get your beautiful wavy hair and your smile and your bright green eyes… and your laugh, and your passion for writing.”

“Hey, what about your hard working ethic, the never-quit attitude that got you into the SEALs? What about your bravery and your courage and your downright freaking captivating blue eyes Mr. Hunk?”

I chuckle. “When you phrase it like that, it sounds like we’re going to make some impressive as hell kids.”

“I don’t mind what they’re like,” Rory murmurs. “As long as they’re healthy and happy.”

“We’ll do everything we can to give them the best life,” I tell her firmly. “I’ve got enough money to provide for us all. You can focus on your writing after you graduate from college. Or you can get a job. It’s up to you. Whatever you choose, I’ll support you. I’m just so damn happy we’re talking about this.”

“Me too,” she says, sounding giddy, maybe even more thrilled than I do. “It’s so freaking awesome. We’re going to do it, Bennet. We’re going to really do it, aren’t we?”

“Yes,” I say with conviction. “There’s no other scenario I can even think about. It’s me and you, Rory, forever.”

We fall silent for a time. I wonder if she’s thinking the same thing I am, that we’re conveniently forgetting about the Rick issue. We haven’t mentioned it since the cabin, but she must know there’s no way to avoid telling him.

What’s he going to do when Rory is suddenly pregnant and he didn’t even know she had a boyfriend?

No, that’s unthinkable. Rick deserves better than that.

But Rory said she isn’t ready.

Do I push the issue, or wait?

Right now my main concern is not ruining the best night of our lives, the night we finally learned just how much we mean to each other.

I stop on Yasmin’s street as Rory texts her friend, letting her know she’s here and will be up soon.

Then she turns to me, a soft smile on her lips. “When will I see you next?”

“I’m heading out of the city for a couple of days tomorrow. A protection job. But I’ll find you as soon as I come home. Try not to miss me too much.”

I try to make my tone carefree, but it comes out flooded with emotion.

“I’m going to miss you,” I go on. “Doubly, triply, a thousand times more now that I know how you really feel.”

She leans in at the same time I do, our lips needing to come together. We kiss ardently, the emotion swelling between us. Her hands slide through my hair and grip onto my neck.

“I want this,” Rory whispers, in between stolen kisses. “I want it badly, Bennet. Maybe when you get back… we can try? But please don’t be disappointed.”

“You could never disappoint me,” I tell her honestly. “So get that thought out of your head. And don’t worry about trying. Once we get started, neither of us will be able to stop. I felt how horny you were back there.”

She makes a soft moaning sound, as though she’s not fully convinced.

“I should go,” she says, leaning back. “But I’ll see you soon. Hopefully.”

“There’s no hopefully about it. The second I’m back, Rory.”

She climbs from the car and I watch her go, the base of my cock pulsing as her hips swish back and forth in that little black dress. She pauses at the door to the apartment building, offering me a little wave.

I wave back, already counting down the seconds until I can see her again.

Chapter Seventeen

Rory

The next couple of days feel like they take years to pass. Bennet and I text a little, but he tells me he’s working long hours and won’t be able to keep in touch all day. That leaves me plenty of time to daydream my way through life, my thoughts populated with all we shared at the cabin, the promises for the future we made.

I try to avoid mom and dad, which is definitely the coward’s way out.

But sitting down to eat with them, talking with mom about books and dad about his favorite TV show… it all feels like I’m betraying them, like every smile is a joke, like every laugh is a taunt.
