“I have none.” Her eyes darkened again, and she was back to her usual self, a queen. “Because you always know what to do. Get to work and then rest. We’ll speak later.”

FOURTEEN

Huntley

I made it back to the cabin hours later, the storm still unabated. I had to shove my entire body into the door to get it to shut, and I didn’t have a clue how Ivory had managed to close it on her own. There was a fire in the hearth, and my sword had been returned to the corner.

She emerged from the bathroom, wet and in just a towel. She stopped in front of me, her eyes fixated on my face, silently asking for answers.

“We lost a lot of people. But it could have been more, so we should consider ourselves lucky.”

“They came for me…didn’t they?”

The attack was a distraction. Klaus had sent his men to grab Ivory while the others sacrificed themselves.

“Why would they do that?”

I shook my head. “You shouldn’t have run—”

“Well, I did. No point in arguing about it.”

“And what the fuck were you thinking, going out there and fighting for the Runes?”

Her eyes narrowed, her hands keeping her towel against her body. “I wasn’t fighting for them. I was fighting for you…”

I released an angry sigh, not because of what she’d said, but how much it turned me on.

“I’m not sorry about it. Don’t expect an apology.”

I never would. “When my mother realizes you were out there, you will be.”

“I risked my life to help you, so punishing me would be a terrible way to show her gratitude.”

“But she’ll realize you were in my cabin. She’ll realize that I never forced you.”

She rolled her eyes. “She needs to get over it.”

“And when she realizes the Teeth came for you…I’m not sure what she’ll do.”

“How would she know?”

I stared, my heartbeat loud in my ears.

Accusation moved into her gaze. “You’re going to tell her.”

“I have to.”

The disappointment was written into every feature of her face.

“I won’t betray my people—for you.”

“Then you better defend your baby against your people.”

“You aren’t my baby—”

“Liar.” She dropped her towel, showing her naked body, drops of water streaking down over small tits and her flat stomach. She called my bluff—and waited for me to cave.

My dick was hard the second I stepped into this cabin, knowing she was inside waiting for me, knowing she had more courage than most of my men put together. My breaths grew heavy, and it took all my strength not to drop my gaze down her body, to appreciate her sexy hips, her slender stomach, the freckle on the inside of her right thigh.

Her stare was pure fire, flames crackling in a hearth, a knowing glint in her gaze.

It made me want her more.

Made her fucking irresistible.

I moved toward her, my fingers yanking the drawstring to my breeches at the same time, caving within seconds.

She didn’t celebrate her win with a gloating smile. She was too busy getting everything off my body, getting me naked as quickly as possible so she could take my angry dick.

I got her on her back at the edge of the bed, my dick penetrating her tightness with a hard thrust.

She moaned as her nails turned into claws, cutting into my skin.

My hands curled under her thighs and held on to them as I pushed inside her deeper than I had before, giving her every inch and watching her wince slightly when it was just a little too much. “Baby.” I let her win. And it had never felt so good to lose.

The storm lasted for days.

Time passed in the blink of an eye, even though I hardly slept.

We fucked day and night, in every position, in every way.

She let me fuck her in the ass—and took it like a champ.

Guess she was my baby after all.

But the storm eventually passed, and reality set in.

Cold. Harsh. Reality.

I returned her to her cabin, the one without the windows or fire, and I felt like shit doing it.

She stood there and looked at me, disappointed. “This is stupid.”

“I know.”

“I don’t want to stay in here.”

“I know.”

“Set your mother straight.”

I couldn’t make any promises. “I’ll try.” I shut the door and walked to the stone keep where my mother waited for me. I entered the dining room in the cabin. Ian was there, and when he didn’t make eye contact with me, I knew it was bad.

She already knew everything.

And she wasn’t pleased.

I took a seat and ignored the ale in front of me.

She stared at me, a stare so cold it was as if the blizzard had returned.

I didn’t bother keeping my cards close to my chest. “Listen—”

“No, Huntley. You will be the one who listens. And you will listen to every damn word I have to say.”

I held her gaze, my jaw tight.
