Unable to hold back any longer, Ainsley stopped trying to control her body and let the waves of pleasure wash over her. The orgasm rolled through her, her muscles contracting and relaxing in a timeless rhythm that seemed to consume her.

She wasn’t sure how long it lasted. The satisfaction of completion erased all sense of time and place, leaving her unmoored in an abyss of sensation. Gradually though, she became aware of Santiago’s presence.

He kissed his way up her body, his hair tickling her skin as it brushed over her. “I’ve been wanting to do that since I walked into your office and saw you standing behind your desk.” His voice was low in her ear, his tone smugly satisfied.

“What took you so long?” she croaked.

He laughed, the sound sending residual shocks through her core. “My perfect Ainsley, always so prim and proper. Do you know how much I love mussing you up?”

She couldn’t find the words to reply. His eyes bored into hers, his arousal making them glow like green fire.

“Do you like it when I make you lose control?”

She opened her mouth to respond, but before she could speak, he slid inside her. She moaned as her sensitive tissues parted to allow his entry, his erection filling and stretching her in all the right ways.

“That’s what I thought.” He paused, buried deep inside her. His eyes searched her face, his expression one of intense focus. “Did you miss me?” he whispered. “Did you miss this?” He punctuated the question with a little thrust of his hips, touching a spot inside of her that only he had ever been able to find.

“Yes,” she gasped, urging him to move with her hands and her hips. But he settled his weight onto her, holding her in place. It was clear Santiago wanted to be in charge, and for the moment, she was happy to let him.

“Good.” The satisfaction in his voice was unmistakable. “Because I missed you, too.”

Before he’d finished speaking the words, he started to move, his hips settling into a rhythm that was at once familiar and new. Ainsley wrapped her legs around his waist and gripped his shoulders, relishing the feel of his big body over hers. Yes, she’d missed this. He’d always felt like her other half, and now that they were joined together again, her heart was full for the first time in five years. Sex with Santiago had always been more than just a physical experience for her. Their bodies, their breath, even their souls entwined, linking them in a way that transcended time and space. Ainsley had never found this connection with anyone else. For a while, after Santiago had left, she’d wondered if she’d simply imagined it. Maybe her broken heart had conjured it in a fit of desperate loneliness. But now that they were together again, she knew she hadn’t been wrong. This man truly was her equal and other half.

She felt him tense above her, knew he was close to his own release. Acting on a combination of instinct and habit, she lifted her head and gently bit his shoulder, pressing just hard enough to leave marks in his skin. He cried out, then shuddered as he found his completion. She held him as his body kicked inside hers, her own core squeezing as she climaxed in response to his passion.

Breathing har

d, Santiago lowered himself until he was flush against her. Ainsley welcomed his weight, loving the way he made her feel surrounded and safe and small in comparison. She stroked her hand up and down his back as they returned to earth together.

Eventually, he stirred and lifted his head. “That was...”

She smiled at his shell-shocked expression. “I know.”

“You always know just what to do.”

“I could say the same for you,” she replied, enjoying the compliment.

A look that could only be described as pure masculine satisfaction crossed his face, and she laughed. “Hey, now. This cabin isn’t big enough for the two of us and your ego.”

He waggled his eyebrows. “Are you sure?”

Ainsley nodded, pleased to see him so happy. The events of this week had put lines of stress around his eyes and mouth, but at the moment, they were gone.

Santiago rolled onto his back and reached for her, pulling her against his side. “That’s too bad,” he remarked, his hand drifting lazily down her arm. “I always love it when you stroke my...ego.”

She groaned at the bad joke, making him laugh. “Oh, come on. It was a little funny.”

“Nope,” she said, resting her head on his shoulder. “I’m not going to encourage you.”

They lay in silence for a time, their bodies growing cool in the air of the room. Ainsley wondered if Santiago was going to leave, but she didn’t want to ask the question. She was happy for him to stay, happy to spend the night in his arms, the way they used to sleep together. They’d already broken so many rules tonight; what was one more?

She felt him relax against her, heard his breathing deepen as he slipped into his dreams. A sense of peace stole over her as the seconds ticked by. She reached down and pulled the covers over them, the way she’d done a million times before.

The regrets would come; she knew that. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not even the day after, but some day she knew she would wish that she’d had the strength to resist falling back into bed with Santiago. Now that she’d slept with him again, reaffirming their connection in every way that mattered, it was going to be that much harder to walk away when this was over.

But she’d worry about that later. Right now, with the man she still loved beside her, Ainsley closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep, warm and safe in Santiago’s arms.
