Ainsley closed her eyes, silently cursing her brother and his impulsivity. “Maybe he’s just running some errands?”

“Nope,” Spencer said. “We’ve been looking for him all day. His condo hasn’t been lived in for a few days at least. Ace is gone.”

“Great.”

“Yeah.” Spencer sighed again. “Look, I know this is awkward, but if you hear from him...?” He trailed off, his question clear.

“If I hear from him in the future, I will encourage him to turn himself in,” Ainsley said.

“All right.” She could tell from Spencer’s tone he’d been hoping for more than the standard legal response. But Ainsley wasn’t about to make a promise she wasn’t sure she could keep.

“Take care of yourself, Spencer,” she said. It was clear he was burning the candle at both ends, trying to solve this case.

“You, too, Ainsley.”

She hung up and looked at Santiago. “Well, he’s gone and done it now.”

“It doesn’t look good,” Santiago admitted. “But like I said before, I know the truth will come out in the end.”

She shook her head. “Such confidence.”

He grinned. “Hey, can you blame me? Now that I’ve got you by my side, I can take on the world. Proving your brother’s innocence is just the first thing on my to-do list.”

Ainsley smiled and leaned in for another kiss. “I guess we’d better get started then.”

Santiago brushed a strand of hair off her cheek, his green eyes alight with love. “Together.”
