As if sensing my thoughts, Macy looked at me then over at her friend. “When are you two gonna call the stork?”

“Mace, you’ve had two. You know damn well that’s not where babies come from.” I laughed.

She exaggerated a gagging sound. “Denial is my friend when it comes to you and Lee.”

Ginger smiled and adjusted Lawrence in her arms. “We’re still newlyweds. Plus, Shawn’s terrible twos extending into the threes, and the potty training fights…” She cut her gaze up at me. “Babies are coming. It just might be a little while.”

I swallowed back the correction that sat at the tip of my tongue. She wanted to wait a while. We were on board with wanting more children, but so far she’d failed to commit to a certain timeframe of when she’d be ready to start. Sucking in a breath, I handed London to Macy and headed back to the abandoned bags on the island.

“Don’t wait too long,” Macy said. Either she missed the exchange or was choosing to ignore it. “Having our kids grow up together would be fun if they’re all close in age.”

Unable to trust myself to comment, I opted for a change of topic as I put away the groceries. “Where’s Mitch anyway?”

Macy let out a huff and rolled her eyes. “One of his patients didn’t follow instructions. Her ass went rollerblading, tripped, and broke her brand new nose. He’s at the hospital. We were supposed to be going to the aquarium today.” She cocked her head to the side. “Did you buy any real food or only junk?”

A large smile spread across my face and I glanced over to my wife, who’d already started turning a lovely shade of pink. “I’m having a sundae later.”

Ginger burst into giggles, and Macy whipped her head back and forth between us. “OMG! You two.”

I gave a half shrug. “Like the lady said, we’re newlyweds.” I put the cherries and whipped cream in the fridge as Macy faked more gagging.

London crawled into her mother’s lap, put her tiny hands on either side of Macy’s face, and shushed her before telling her not to wake the baby. She frowned at her daughter before turning her around to sit in her lap. London made herself comfortable, then stuck her small thumb into her mouth. She’d be asleep soon like her brother.

“You’d swear she was Lawrence’s mother some days.”

Ginger laughed. “Wonder where she gets it from.”

“Her father.”

“Right,” I replied.

I placed the other items in the pantry before picking up the second bag. Glancing again at my Ginger, I strolled over for a quick kiss.

She reached out for the bag trying to steal a peek. “What’s that?”

I looked at Macy, then back at her and winked. “For later.”

Macy let out a dramatic sigh.

“You know, Mace, you can’t ask when you’re getting another nephew or niece but then get all grossed out over how they get here.” Ginger gave my annoying sister a smug grin.

A weird sense of pride swelled and somehow I managed to suppress a laugh and the “boo-ya” that would have accompanied it. Yup, that was my woman.

Macy wrinkled up her nose and frowned in my direction. “Ruined her. That’s what you’ve done.”

Ginger tugged at my arm, pulling me down for another kiss. “Yes, but in the best possible way.”

Macy’s eyes softened. “Yeah, I guess so. Happiness radiates off you. Off both of you.”

“What can I say, she pretty much hit the lotto with me.”

I quickly dodged the playful swat that came my way, and both women groaned. With a wink and a soft chuckle, I bounded up the stairs to the sound of them talking shit about me having a big head and an overinflated ego.

I’d just lit the final candle when Ginger emerged from the bathroom. The wet strands of her red hair hung in soft waves around her shoulders.

She glanced around the room, clutching the fluffy towel wrapped around her body. “You’ve been busy.”

I held my hand out toward her. “I was a good boy and ate all my dinner so it’s time for dessert.”
