The coconut scent of her hair product flooded his senses. Her tongue moved across her bottom lip before she inched forward, making the slightest contact with his body. She placed her hands on the waistband of his pants. His actions stilled.

Silently, he willed her to move them down and give relief to this aching cock. Unfortunately, she went the other direction, and slid them around until she got to his ass. She squeezed and grinned up at him. Lifting up on her tiptoes, she nipped his chin and moved down kissing his neck. He bent to give her better access.

He gripped the counter behind her. “Peaches?”

“Hmm?”

“I think you’re starting with the funny business.”

She stepped back and they stared at each other. A slow smile spread across her face and it took an amazing amount of self-control not to go in for a taste of those sweet lips. Another grab of his ass then she laughed and ducked beneath his arm.

“What the—”

“Thanks for returning these.” She twirled her panties around her finger. “They’re part of a set.”

“Oh, that’s cold.” He reached for her and she dodged him, laughing as ran from the kitchen.

He gave chase. He’d start right; she’d moved left. A stare off with her couch between them. Toeing off his Vans, Ryan made a quick dash across it, and grabbed her by the waist before she could dodge the attack. They tumbled over the couch and to the floor, ending with her pinned beneath him. The laughs gave way to their heavy breathing.

He leaned down and stopped inches from her lips. “Are we good?”

She nodded. “Yeah, we’re good,” she answered then lifted her head to connect their lips.

Chapter Eleven

Jess

Jess looked at the horribly misshaped plait dangling on the right side of her head and laughed.

“Admiring my handiwork,” Ryan gave her a crooked smile as he sat beside her on her bed.

He was in her room, on her bed, thanks to his insistence on helping her complete her hair-care routine. Ashley wasn’t his girlfriend. And he was heir to an apparent construction throne. Her head spun with the new information. He’d made a point to explain he’d wanted to clear the air, but she couldn’t let herself get her hopes up. Nothing really had changed, other than he hadn’t been a cheater.

“Your plaiting skills need some work.”

He picked up a bundle of hair and gave it a small tug. “Maybe you’ll give me more lessons.”

The suggestive tone of his voice set off the stupid, giddy butterflies dancing in her stomach. Add the rapid, excited beating of her heart and she had a full on battle against the small voice of reason trying its damnedest to keep her focused. Just sex. It was just sex. Ashley may not have been his girlfriend, but neither was she. He owed her no loyalties, and while they’d spent quite a bit of time together, it wasn’t like they’d been inseparable.

The stroke of his finger down her jawline made her jump. “What’s wrong, Peaches?”

She gave a quick shake of her head. “Nothing. We should go downstairs.” She stood and walked toward her door without waiting on him to reply.

For once she was able to hold her tongue and not spout off the things that were in her head. She could easily see how someone could get caught up and want more with him. He was funny, considerate, on top of being hella great eye candy. Hell, she’d only been around him for a handful of days and part of her was ready to start doodling fucking hearts around their names. He was also up front, what you saw was what you got with him. He’d not led her on and tried to pretend it was more. He wasn’t into relationships.

Ryan liked hookups. No-strings-attached, friends-with-benefits sex. She would not turn needy, wanting more. Thinking it was one thing; however, she sat smack dab in the middle of an easier said than done situation. Warm fingers wrapped around her wrist, stopping her before she could exit.

His steely gray eyes searched her face. “Not sure if you’re aware, but you have an amazingly expressive face. You would suck so bad at poker.”

His light tease loosened the tension a notch.

“What’s going on in that beautiful head of yours, Peaches?”

She pulled her arm free and paced her room. “That. You with the compliments and constant flirting. That stupid name that makes me all giddy like a teenage girl being noticed by her crush.” She clamped her hand over her mouth. Fuck. So much for not spewing everything.

His tall, muscular form appeared before her. He wrapped his strong, tanned arms around her and held her close.

“I don’t think anyone has ever told me I make them giddy. I like that idea.” He lowered his head so that his lips were beside her ear. “Peaches.”
