“Tell him,” I whisper.

“I’m kinda busy right now,” River says. “Can we talk in the morning?”

“Yeah, sure.” Ollie nods. “Just checking to see if you wanna come with us to Ben’s apartment. They’re having a game night.”

Ben Foster is the captain of the Flyers. A bunch of the players live one floor below us.

“Not tonight,” River says. “Maybe next time.”

Ollie studies River, then me, as if he knows what’s going on between us. “Okay,” he says in a hushed tone. “We’ll be back late. Don’t wait up.”

After my brother disappears into the living room, River reaches between us to push open his door. “Get in,” he says, as I stumble into the room.

He locks the door behind him, an intense gaze aimed at me. His hand moves to my hip, dangerously close to the waistband of my yoga pants. I can’t think straight with him this close.

“Why are you acting strange, River?”

“It’s not you, Em.”

I laugh in his face. “It’s me?”

“No.” He shakes his head. “I’m trying to figure out how to approach Ollie without fucking up our bond. The Flyers are killing it right now. We’re on a winning streak. I don’t want to mess with our mojo.”

River takes control, pushing me onto the mattress. He strips off my pants and panties in one fell swoop, and then runs his long fingers along my slit, shoving his fingers inside me with a loud grunt.

He quickens his pace, adding another finger. My eyes slam shut as he thrusts deeper inside me, hitting all the right spots. Covering his hand with mine, I help guide his fingers in and out of me so painfully slow every part of my body tingles. We move in unison until his fingers bring me to the peak of my climax, and right before I’m about to come, he withdraws his hand.

“Patience,” he says and then slides his fingers along my bottom lip, shoving them into my mouth.

He rakes his teeth along my neck, and tiny bumps run down my arms from the intense wave of pleasure that sweeps over me. Within seconds, he’s on top of me, spreading my thighs apart with his knee.

He shifts his weight on top of me, leaning on his elbow for support. “You drive me crazy, Emma. You always did and probably always will.”

River thrusts inside me, pushing my shirt over my breasts. He sucks my nipple into his warm mouth, peeking up at me with the tiny bud between his teeth. When my body trembles, heat sweeps over me in waves.

After he makes me come, River kisses me so hard and fast my head spins. “I love how sensitive you are,” he whispers. “The way you respond to even the slightest touch.”

“You have a gift,” I quip.

River laughs, and then his tongue sweeps inside my mouth, tangling with mine. Starting at my shoulder, he runs his fingers down my arm, and when our lips separate, I miss the closeness to him.

“I think we should tell your brother together. He should hear it from both of us.”

“We should tell him in a public place,” I suggest.

He tips his head back and laughs. “So, he doesn’t kill us?”

“Pretty much. He might not punch you if we’re in public.”

River kisses my forehead, my nose, and then my lips. “I’m sorry for acting like a dick all day. It had nothing to do with you.”

“Never do that again. I’ve dated enough assholes.”

He suck my bottom lip into his mouth. “If I have my way, you’ll never date another man again.”

For our first official date, River surprises me by getting us a reservation at Chef Pierre Bernard’s new restaurant. My eyes widen as we step inside, greeted by the hostess, who escorts us to a private table in the back. Ollie is on my right, River on my left.

Tonight is the night we’re going to tell him about us. It’s been a few weeks, enough time for River and me to get to know each other better.

“How did you get us a reservation at a restaurant that has a six month waitlist?” I ask River. “I’ve been trying to eat here for months.”

“I have my ways.” He slips his fingers between mine, and electricity skates down my arm. “And Ollie may have mentioned you love Chef Pierre once or twice.”

“She’s obsessed with him,” Ollie chimes.

My face illuminates. “He’s one of my idols.”

Once we’re seated, nerves swirl in my belly. I’ve gone over every word of what we’re going to say to Ollie. I don’t think he’ll be mad, since we’re telling him the truth. We’ve only been dating for a month, so it’s not like we waited that long.

Our server appears to take our drink and food orders, and then she disappears into the kitchen. This is the moment. Might as well clear the air now. If we prime Ollie with food and drinks, he might be less likely to strangle River once we break the news.
