I went back to the bathroom to comb the tangles out of my hair. I picked up Ryan’s brush and then noticed a short dark hair sticking to my neck.

We’d been so sweaty last night. I probably had Ryan’s hair plastered to my body and vice versa.

I pulled the hair off my neck and examined it.

Damn. The bulb of keratin on the end was intact.

This was a fresh hair. Ideal for DNA testing.

Without thinking much more on the matter, I held the hair between my fingers and sneaked back into the kitchen. I searched through the cupboards until I found a box of zippered plastic bags. I grabbed one, stuffed the hair inside, and zipped it. Then I went back to the bedroom and hid it in my purse.

My heart beat wildly.

I didn’t have to do anything with that hair. I was only taking it because…

Because why?

Was I going to betray Ryan’s trust and give that hair to his brothers to have it tested?

Take it out of your purse, Ruby. Take it out and flush it down the toilet.

But something held me back.

Just having that hair was not a betrayal.

I hadn’t done anything yet.

It would be safe. Safe in my purse.

I let Ricky in and gave him some fresh water. I rooted around for dog food, and when I found a can I opened it and fed him.

My skin chilled.

Why had I taken that hair?

No. Wasn’t going to think about that right now. It was safe in my purse. I searched the kitchen again and found some eggs and veggies. I thought I’d surprise Ryan with an omelet for breakfast.

A few peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms later, I’d made two omelets and brewed a pot of coffee. Ryan still hadn’t come out to the kitchen, so I figured I’d go wake him up before the eggs got cold.

I walked to the bedroom and made a quick decision.

I would get rid of that hair in my purse.

I grabbed my clutch and opened it, ready to take out the hair and throw it away, when I noticed I had a new text message.

Stay the fuck away from my son, bitch.

Chapter Twenty–Six

Ryan

I awoke, stretching. The aroma coming from the kitchen was making my mouth water. Smelled like eggs and coffee. And that sounded great.

I sat up and looked around.

Ruby was over by the dresser, staring at her phone. She was wearing my black cotton shirt, and oh my God…she couldn’t have looked more delectable in sapphire silk and lace. My cock hardened, but before I called her over, I stopped myself. Something was wrong. Her body looked tight, and not in a good way.

“Everything okay, baby?” I asked.
