p; “So, rather than race cars, now you’re just going to play dad with me?” I smoothed away the fuzz of soap on his pecs, my pinkie scoring his nipple lightly.

He caught my hand, holding it over his heart. “I’m not going to play at it. I want to be a good father. I want our kid to know I’m here for her or him.” He tipped my chin up with his other hand and our gazes met. “That I’m here for his mom.”

I blinked away the rush of tears. Was I just a mom?

Even if that was all that was truly between us, it was more than I’d ever had.

I smiled because he needed me to. And I had to or I’d ask questions I shouldn’t. It was bad enough they were already pushing at me this soon. What was it about him? Was it just the pregnancy hormones flexing inside of me? Searching out for the family and the whole nesting thing Kelsey spoke about?

“Well, if you’re serious.”

“I am.”

I released him and caught my mitt between us. “I talked to my sister about doctors.”

“Oh, good. That’s smart.”

“I have my moments.”

He twisted our fingers together. “More than a few.”

“If I called to make an appointment, maybe you could go with me?”

“Yes. Definitely. Just tell me when and where.”

The lust had faded, and only the sweet guy I was getting to know remained. “Thanks.”

He cupped my face. “No need to thank me. I want to be there for you and the baby. Even if it means going to scary doctor’s offices.”

I wrapped my fingers around his arms. “I’ll take you up on it, because I’m scared shitless.”

He kissed me firmly. Not in the way that meant we were going to stay naked, which I would have been cool with, to tell the truth. Sex was easy to understand. Even if he kept turning the tables on me.

This was different. Now he was speaking in a more resolute tone that actually reminded me of Dare.

“Let’s get you fed and we’ll have a relaxed night in. How’s that sound?”

“Does that mean Netflix and chill?”

He smirked down at me. “It could.”

“I’m down for that.”

“Yeah?” Tenderly, he brushed my wet hair away from my cheek. “Me too.”

“When I said feed you, this isn’t what I had in mind.”

She looked up from her loaded bagel. We were sitting in Brewed Awakening as Macy and her crew were cleaning up. “I don’t even have to wear a bra down here. No one is here but us girls.”

“First of all, hello—not a girl.”

She grinned around a crunchy bite.

“And I’m well aware you’re not wearing a bra. You’re trying to kill me.”
