He studied me for a moment, then shook his head. “Nah, you don’t talk about it like he does, and I don’t think you plan to reform like he did.”

“You’re telling me Beau’s not involved in anything illegal?”

“Beau’s a good man.”

“He sure as hell is, but not all men who break the law are bad, not in the ways that count at least.” I was sure he’d learned that working here. “Go on. You can show me around the place.” I gestured for him to head up the stairs. “Is the door at the top locked?”

He shrugged. “Maybe, but I don’t think that’ll be a problem for you.”

I smiled to myself as I watched him go upstairs. My gaze dropped to his tight ass and lingered there. I wanted to grab hold of his hips and sink my teeth into that perky flesh, but I remembered Beau’s warning. I wasn’t afraid of Beau, but I was asking a serious favor of him, and he was a good ally to have.

As I watched Leland’s lean body move up the stairs, I thought the risk just might be worth it. There was no way in hell Leland wasn’t interested, not after the way he’d reacted when I was on top of him. Even scared after having been knocked to the ground, pinned there, and shot at, his eyes had been hungry, and his hips had risen up to meet my body.

Would I be able to resist him all night? I’d just have to see how things went.

Of course, Leland would probably insist I needed to rest instead of engaging in vigorous activity. Maybe I wasn’t ready to hold my weight up on my bad arm, but I could sure as hell give him a good deep dicking, bullet wound or not.

Just thinking about the way he’d react, the way he’d moan, pant, and cry out as I took him, the way he’d look when I made him come and then come again made me hard as fuck. Was I really going to walk away without experiencing that?

“Are you all right?” Leland asked.

I blinked and realized I was staring at him while bracing myself against the wall. Maybe I was a little out of it. I shook my head and walked the rest of the way up the stairs. The door at the top was locked as I’d expected, but I made quick work of it like I had the one below.

I whistled when I pushed the door open. Beau’s apartment was full of fancy paintings and knickknacks and all kinds of shit. “I never thought Beau would be this into decorating.”

Leland smiled. “I’m pretty sure that’s his boyfriend’s doing. I think it was pretty bare before he moved in.”

“I need to meet this man.”

“Maybe someday you can.”

I doubted that. “I don’t think I’ll be sticking around. It doesn’t seem like it’s safe for me in these parts.”

“So the problem you’re having with these bikers—”

“They’re members of Lightning MC. Keep away from them.”

“So your issue isn’t something that’s going to get cleared up?”

“I’m not going to hold out hope for that. To pull that off, I would likely need the help of Beau’s most powerful friends, and I sure as hell wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t want to stick his neck out like that for me.”

Leland pulled out his phone. “I’m going to order us some food. Are sandwiches okay?”

“Yeah, I’m not picky.”

I took a step and the room started to swirl around me. I had to grip the back of the sofa to stay on my feet. I’d climbed the stairs way too fast.

Leland held up a finger telling me to wait. I sure as hell hadn’t planned on moving again, not until I was sure I wouldn’t pass the fuck out.

“You’re even paler than you were right after I got the bullet out,” Leland said as he stuffed his phone back into his pocket. “Come on, let me help you into the guest room.”

“Okay.” I wanted to assure him I was fine, but if I didn’t let him put me to bed, I might pass out, and that was no good. I needed to be ready just in case my enemies came back. I’d promised Beau no one would hurt Leland, and I took that promise seriously.

“Should I worry that you’re actually agreeing with my suggestion?”

I chuckled. “I’m not going to die on you. I never let people off that easy.”

The bedroom he took me to was more modestly decorated than the open living area and kitchen. It was clean and neat, but it lacked the extra touches. Beau’s boyfriend must not have gotten to it yet.

Leland pulled back the covers, and I sat down on the edge of the bed. When he dropped to his knees in front of me, the room began to spin again. Holy shit, was I hallucinating now?
