She approaches me, barely able to meet my eye. I managed to keep my composure, but seeing her now, all I want to do is to kiss her. It feels like only a few seconds have passed since I saw her last, even though these past three years without her have felt like an eternity. Now she’s here, it all melts away. She stops just short of me, smiling at me shyly.

“Hi,” she says quietly. “I guess you’re my ride for the day?”

As soon as she says it, she blushes, and I smirk. It’s a slip of the tongue, but one I have to admit I like. The thought of her riding my cock is almost enough to make me grab her and have her right here and now. But I remain calm. I don’t want to scare her off when we’re only just exploring these feelings.

“It’s good to see you, Taylor,” I say, my voice coming out as a growl. Her smile widens and she finally meets my eyes properly.

“It’s good to see you, too,” she whispers. She stumbles as someone pushes past her roughly, knocking her with his bag. I growl in annoyance, grabbing the man’s arm.

“Watch where the hell you’re going,” I snarl, glaring at the man. He’s clearly oblivious to what he did, because he just glances over his shoulder, wondering what went wrong.

“Sorry, I guess,” he says with a shrug. I keep a strong grip on his arm.

“Tell the lady you’re sorry, not me,” I growl. He finally has the sense to look a little worried. He turns to Taylor, looking apologetic.

“Sorry if I pushed past you...I didn’t mean any harm.”

“That’s okay,” Taylor says gently. It’s not okay at all, but I can see she doesn’t want to cause a scene, and I don’t want to upset her. I let the man go and he scurries away without another word. I turn to Taylor, touching her arm and trying to ignore the electricity sparking between us.

“Are you alright?”

“I’m okay,” she says, smiling. “Thank you, though. It was nice of you to protect me.”

“I’ll always protect you,” I growl before I can stop myself. But I don’t regret saying it. Now that she’s here with me, I know I won’t ever be able to let her go. I know there’s no chance of me ever stepping aside to let another man have her. She’s mine now, and I’ll protect her for now and for always.

Even if wanting her costs me everything.

Chapter Two

Taylor

Getting into Ryker’s car feels like I’m in a dream. I wasn’t as ready as I thought to see him again. Even with the slight warning from my dad that I might see him again, nothing could prepare me for seeing him across the room. Now, he’s welcoming me into the car, offering to take my bag for me, opening the door of his Mercedes to help me into the passenger seat. He’s such a gentleman that it only makes me want him even more.

As I get myself seated in the car, I can feel my heart racing. As if I wasn’t nervous enough about the interview this afternoon, now I’ve got this anxiety added on top of it. I had plans to prep for the interview with my dad as we drove, but I know this car ride is going to be very different now that I’m spending it with Ryker.

Ryker gets into the front seat and straps in. I take a moment to stare at his perfect form. Under his expensive suit, he’s sculpted like a God. I know without even having to see for myself. His jaw is lined with light stubble that only accentuates the sharp lines of his face. His dark eyes focus on the road ahead as he starts the engine and begins the journey from the airport into the city. I can feel my heart hammering in my chest. There’s no going back now.

“Your father sends his apologies for not being here,” Ryker says. I’m already accustoming to his deep voice and the protective lilt in his tone that makes me feel so safe. I sigh at his comment. Though I’m more than glad to be in the car with Ryker right now, I can’t help feeling let down by my father once again.

“I’m used to it by now,” I whisper. “I guess this isn’t the most important event he’s ever missed. He’s missed some big moments.”

“Like what?”

“Birthdays,” I say a little bitterly, remembering my eighth birthday party. I spent the whole night waiting for him to show up, but when I called him after, I found out he’d never even made it to the airport. “Christmas, a few times. I’m not sure what could possibly be so important that he’d miss Christmas but he did anyway. Like I said. I’m used to it by now.”
