Kai lay over me, kissed me long and hard, his dark eyes glinting in the light of the lamp on the nightstand. “Stay right there,” he said with a grin, and reached to the drawer for a condom.
“Wait.” I raked my fingers through his thick, silken hair. “During your speech today on the court, you said you wanted to give me anything I wanted.”
“I did. I do,” Kai said. “You never ask for anything and I just want to spoil you rotten. It’s torture, really.”
I let my fingers trail down his cheek. “I thought of something I want.”
“Name it.”
I inhaled. “I want another baby.”
Kai’s eyes widened, and his brilliant smile was everything. “Me too.”
“You do?”
He nodded. “Laki needs a diversion, for one. And I…yes. I want another baby. I’ll never get the hang of his fatherhood thing but I’m willing to try.”
Tears filled my eyes. “I’m so glad. You’re such an amazing father to Laki.”
His smile wavered. “I had a great coach.”
I held him for a moment and then he kissed me softly, then harder. The spark that had been waiting t
o ignite flared, and I groaned as Kai slipped inside me. The need between us that had been urgent and raw mellowed into something deeper. More intense, but no less heated.
Kai brought me to the edge of oblivion and then over. Grasping at his hips, I pulled him inside me as his own climax crashed through him. I lifted my hips, wanting all of him, all of his release, wanting every part of this life with him that was about to expand and become richer, if not this night, then in some night to come.
When we’d taken our fill of each other’s bodies hours later, we fell into a sated, heavy rest. Kai slept almost at once.
Of course, I thought fondly. He’s had a day.
Pride for his accomplishments swept through me, but I saved a little for myself. My battles weren’t fought on a court, surrounded by cameras that captured every moment for the world to see. I faced them in private, with the love and support of so many, including this amazing man lying beside me.
I kissed my fingertips and put them to his lips, then reached over and turned out the light.
