I nodded, forcing a smile on my lips. “Is there anything I can do?”

He shook his head. “Just don’t hold this against me? It’s not how I pictured our first time.”

When Gavin was out of sight, I turned to start unloading the rest of the Jeep. My doubts were soon replaced by his last words, and warmth filled my chest. Had Gavin really pictured us together?

“You’re back early.” Ali appeared at the door of the garage. She leaned against the jamb, crossing her arms as her forehead wrinkled.

“Gavin got a call about work,” I said, looking away from her frown and focusing back on the camping gear. “It was an emergency.”

“Well he’s still being charged for the overnight,” Ali said matter-of-factly. “We don’t run a charity.”

I ignored her as I stacked the gear on the shelves along the opposite wall. Ali was always about business. She didn’t get that emergencies could come up. I didn’t know why she cared—it’s not like she owned Three Sisters. The adventure tour company we worked for was actually owned by three sisters who used to live in the valley. They’d all moved away years ago, only popping in a few times a year to check in. Ali was their acting manager. Sometimes she took the job way too serious.

“So,” she continued, “seeing as you’re back early, want to come for drinks with some of my clients? We’re on our way out now.”

I finished putting the last of the camping gear away and turned to face her. Ali was dressed in high heels and a black leather skirt, while I was still in cargo shorts and a tank top. While her skin glowed and her hair was shiny, I felt filthy from rolling around with Gavin.

The thought of Gavin made my cheeks flush hot. “I was thinking about checking in on Gavin when I finished. You know, see if he needs my help.”

Ali narrowed her eyes. “What do you mean, help? Why are you acting weird?”

I quickly tore my gaze away from hers as I rushed past her into the locker room. The click of her heels chased after me. “I’m not being weird. I just wanted to see if everything was okay.”

“You’ve never cared about hanging out with Gavin before,” she said, showing up next to my locker as I undressed. “Spill. Now.”

“There’s nothing to spill,” I said, as I pulled off my shirt. When my head popped out from the other side, she was fixated on me. I knew Ali. She was not going to give up. “Fine. We might have—kissed. And by kissed, I might mean I slept with him.”

“Cher!” I reeled back as she punched me in the arm. “Finally!”

“I know.” I hung my head in my locker. “But now what do I do? I want to text him but what if I’ve ruined our friendship?”

“Impossible,” Ali said. “That boy has had the hots for you as long as I’ve known you. Now hurry up and clean up so you can go see him.”

Hope filled my insides as I met her gaze. Ali’s bright blue eyes were ablaze with excitement—a rare trait in my overly-sarcastic friend. “Do you really think so?” I asked. “I’m just worried it’s too fast.”

“Gawd, Cher.” Ali rolled her eyes. “It’s been two years. Take the plunge already.”

I smiled. “Hurry up and get out of here so I can clean up.”

A smile crept across Ali’s face. “Deal.” She winked before turning on her heel. “Try not to be such a dirty girl next time.”

I waited until the click of her heels disappeared out of the office, before stripping the last of my clothes off. Leaving them in a heap on the floor in front of my locker, I slipped into the showers and turned a nice flow of hot water. Steamed filled the tiny room as I let the drops fall all over my body. As the water cascaded over my naked body, it washed away the coat of filth from my hike with Gavin, but not the memory of his touch.

Grabbing my bar of soap, I ran my hand down my neck, remembering every place Gavin’s lips gently pressed against my skin. My hand moved the soap across my chest, lathering both nipples as I pictured Gavin’s tongue in its place. I moved the soap slowly down my torso, grazing my groin as I bent over and lathered each leg. On my way back, I ran the suds along my inner thighs, thinking of Gavin’s hand spreading my legs apart, moving his face between them.

My other hand slid effortlessly down my body, reaching the slippery fold between my thighs. My fingers slipped inside, teasing my clit as I imagined Gavin’s fingers in their place. Moving quickly up and down, bursts of pleasure exploded at my fingertips, stemming from deep inside of me. I pressed my forehead against the cool tiles of the shower wall as my legs began to shake at the idea of Gavin and me together again.

As my orgasm shuddered down my legs, I pressed my thighs together holding my hand in place. My other hand was free, having lost the soap moments before. I stayed like that, under the hot water, until the last sensual ripple finished its course.

As I ran the towel across my now sensitive skin, I found myself filled with confidence. I was going to Gavin’s store to check on him, because number one, I was Gavin’s friend, and number two, I wanted more.

SIX

Every inch of my body tingled with excitement as I drove to Gavin’s store. Would he be excited? Or would he be too frazzled from his emergency? Doubt seeped into my confidence, making me regret my decision to stop in. But I’d stopped home after my shower and primped and primed myself into a hot piece of ass. Hair curled, nails painted, and a tight black dress was just what I needed to turn Gavin into mush in my hands.

But when I pulled up out front of Gavin’s store, everything was dark. I still put my car in park and tried the doo

r, in case someone was inside, but it was locked. I peered in the window, and everything looked okay. Nothing was damaged or messy—not that I knew what I was looking for.
