“Leave her. She’s no different than the others. I don’t know why you even wasted your time with her.” Waylon turned around and left first. Brody shook his head and walked after him and Ricky looked her over then looked at Murphy.

“Go ahead. I’ll be right there,” Murphy told him, and Ricky walked out.

“I don’t know what ideas are running through your head, woman. My brothers and I haven’t given another woman the time of day in years. You come along, and well, you did something to each of us.” She looked up at him, her eyes as big as saucers and filled with unshed tears.

“Patience sure as shit ain’t one of the Haas family traits. I’ll leave this alone for now, but eventually, I’m gonna find out the truth. I always do.”

“Leave, Murphy. Please, just leave.”

He gave her a wink then walked out of the cottage, closing the door behind him.

As he headed toward his truck and his brothers’ trucks, he shook his head.

They looked angry.

“Just leave her be. In time, she’ll open up. Let’s head home.”

Chapter 7

“See, I told you that you would have a good time, Amelia,” Regan said then tipped her shot glass against Amelia’s and Velma’s. They swallowed them down as the group of Velma’s friends and some rowdy cowboys hooted and hollered.

Amelia could feel the buzz. She hadn’t drank like this ever before. She wasn’t drunk yet, but if she kept up with Regan, she was going to have a hell of a hangover for the family party tomorrow.

Thoughts of that brought thoughts of her brothers. She’d practically cried her eyes out all afternoon.

Now here they were having an awesome time celebrating Velma’s twenty-first birthday which started Friday night.

Amelia was standing up and moved to the right as one of Velma’s guy friends came up to give her a birthday kiss. A moment later, Amelia felt the hands on her hips. Someone was pressing up against her back.

“This is quite the surprise.”

Paul.

“Paul. What are you doing here?” She turned around to face him and his brother Will. Will placed his hand on her waist, too, and leaned forward to kiss her cheek hello. She turned and accidently caused his lips to touch hers.

“You look hot, Amelia,” he said, looking her over.

“Thank you.” She had borrowed the dress from Regan and even though the strapless top was a bit smaller than she would have liked, Velma and Regan talked her into wearing it.

It was tight up top, flared out toward the bottom, and the little fringe on the end danced against her thighs as she walked. It was red and very sexy, but loose enough to dance in and feel comfortable.

Paul kept a hand on her lower back and Will kept one on her waist as they talked with her.

“Hey, guys, how’s it going?” Regan asked Paul and Will, then laid her head on Amelia’s shoulder.

Amelia could tell that Regan was feeling the alcohol. Every time Amelia, Regan, and Velma walked up to the bar someone brought them a drink or a shot.

“We’re doing great, honey. Looks like you’re having fun,” Paul said then looked at Will and winked.

Amelia picked up on it as Paul pushed a strand of hair from Regan’s cheek.

“You look hot tonight, Regan,” he told her and she giggled then pulled her head off of Amelia’s shoulder. Placing her hands on her hips she scolded Paul.

“Don’t you start flirting with me. I’m taken. I know you and your brother want Amelia.”

“Regan.” Amelia shook her head. Regan turned around and placed her arm over her sister’s shoulder.

Will pulled Amelia closer to him, then leaned down to whisper against her ear. “Don’t get upset with Regan. You know what she said is true. Come home with us tonight.”
