Decker brought forth his alpha, and she followed the sound of the whimpers. She went down to the basement where there was a covered mattress on a bed with nothing around.

A young boy was sweating profusely. The scent of sickness, blood, and other bodily fluids filled the air.

Decker held the young boy in his arms. Blueberry had crystals, and was talking about herbs with the parents, not that they seemed to be paying attention.

“Make it stop.”

“You will be fine,” Decker said.

“I’m going to die.”

“No, you’re not going to die.”

The young boy sobbed, though, and Misha knew she couldn’t let this happen. She promised this boy’s sister.

“Hi, sweetie,” she said, moving closer to her mate and the poor boy.

Decker glanced up, and she smiled as she tucked her hair behind her ear and sat on the edge of the mattress. The boy’s parents were terrified, hugging each other. Blueberry had taken over and went to the kitchen.

“I know you,” the boy said. “You come to the school when there aren’t enough cleaners.”

Misha chuckled. “It has been some time since I did that. The name’s Misha.”

“ … Trevor…” He started to tense, and Misha grabbed his arm.

“Tell me about your sister, Trevor. I saw your little sister outside, and she is worried.”

He groaned. “No, she can’t worry.”

“Talk to me.”

She felt Decker using his alpha, wolf, pushing energy into the boy, helping him to stop turning, to keep focus.

She listened as Trevor told her stories, thinking about his little sister, and she couldn’t help but chuckle through them. Blueberry returned with a tonic, and they helped Trevor to take it, which seemed to ease his pain.

The hours ticked on by.

Trevor’s parents, as well as Blueberry, continued to bring down food, the special tonic, fresh water, and they washed their charge, taking time, and constantly keeping him distracted.

Misha only left for toilet breaks and returned to relieve Decker of his duty. Blueberry didn’t leave either, as she provided medication, which helped. For two days, they stayed with Trevor, and by the third, he was safe. His wolf had been pushed back, and she stood outside waiting for Decker as he consulted with the family, requesting that Trevor see him. Blueberry provided a tonic, along with instructions on how to administer it.

They all stood outside, and Blueberry held her hand out to Decker.

“You did good,” she said.

Decker chuckled.

“Will he be okay?”

“The tonic will help. He’s not ready, but the tonic will help to soothe his fears. That is all he needs. Being scared activates his wolf, and he wants to come out and protect him. It happens.” Blueberry sighed. “This is a good look. You two, finally together.”

Misha didn’t even realize she’d snuggled up to Decker’s arm, resting her head against his chest. She didn’t bother to move.

Decker stroked her arm. “I won’t let her go,” he said.

“Good. We need to discuss her pregnancy,” Blueberry said.

“I’m here. You don’t need to pretend like I’m not.” She rolled her eyes.

Blueberry smiled. “We’ll talk soon. Get some rest. You both look as bad as I feel.”

“Charming,” Decker said.

Misha snuggled in against her mate, not wanting to let him go.

“How are you feeling?” he asked.

“Tired, exhausted.”

She released a cry as he suddenly picked her up in his arms. “Decker, what are you doing?”

“I’m carrying you to our home.”

“The pack is going to see.”

“Good. I want them all to see who you belong to because I’m not letting you out of my sight for a second.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck, holding on to him. She loved his arms, his touch, his everything, and the truth was that she didn’t want to let him go.

Full moon

Decker sensed the pack surrounding them. Misha was naked, staring up at the moon, and she had never looked more beautiful. There was no sign of her pregnancy, not that he needed to see it to know she was pregnant. Her hunger and insatiable appetite were enough to convince him.

The last couple of weeks had been surreal. The pack had watched him carry her toward his house, and he’d sensed their happiness. They wanted this mating, and so did Decker. He couldn’t keep living in fear of what would happen. There would always be a small part of him that was worried, but he wouldn’t ever let Misha be alone, or let her suffer in silence.

His father had admitted that he didn’t know how to be with his mother. They had been two completely different wolves, and he hadn’t handled their mating as he should have. Misha wasn’t his mother, and he wasn’t his father.

The pack adored Misha. They loved her. She was a strong woman, and he sent prayers that she hadn’t left him. Misha was his, but he’d nearly lost her.

Decker closed the distance between them, putting a hand on the base of her back. He pressed his body against hers, not wanting to have any space between them. Misha had gotten beneath his skin, and he wasn’t ashamed to admit he was addicted to this woman.
