Her heart swelled with love as she looked up at him curiously. Ragnar had chosen the day, and at the time she’d assumed he’d picked it because Midsummer was a day of celebration for Icelanders. But the shake in his hand now told a different story.

Reaching up, she stroked his cheek. ‘Tell me why you chose it?’

‘It’s the summer solstice.’ He hesitated, struggling to contain the emotion in his voice. ‘That means the sun will never set on our wedding day. I just liked the idea of that.’

‘I like it too.’ Tears filled her eyes and throat and, pulling him closer, she kissed him softly. ‘I love you.’

‘And I love you. So very much.’

For a moment neither of them could speak, but as Ragnar lowered his mouth and kissed her again Lottie knew it didn’t matter. Sometimes words were irrelevant.
