Page 49 of Love on Her Terms

She was usually able to keep dating anxiety under control, but the longer she sat looking at her phone, the dark wood of her dresser visible out of the corner of her eye, the more quietly her vulnerabilities whispered. And quiet meant they were more insidious.

Have a box. Keep that box at your house. We’ll need them there. ;)

With that, Mina’s entire body started to tingle. She hopped out of the bed, rushed over to her dresser and pulled out the underwear she’d promised.

THE TEXT “I’M bringing condoms” made him hard. And with it came the realization that he’d been acting stupid. He’d been putting off sex in search of the perfect moment. The right move. The time when they’d squeezed every last moment of pleasure out of the sexual tension between them.

Or maybe that was him being kind to himself. Maybe he was afraid that once she was under him and he slid into her, he’d never want to let her go. And he’d want nothing more than to make sure she was happy all the time. He’d be done. Finished. Wiped out.

That thinking clouded the fact that Mina made his life better. She made his life bigger. They were in Big Sky country, but with Mina by his side, the sky wasn’t so much big as it was infinite.

It wasn’t fear he was feeling, but awe and inspiration. And the gut-clenching hope that he was worthy of all she would bring him.

Plus, sex was awesome, and being so horny was distracting him at work. Sex with Mina and being able to relive it later would also be a distraction, but at least it would be a better one.

Have a box. Keep that box at your house. We’ll need them there. That didn’t look too inviting. He added ;) and hit Send. The hell with it. He was an old grouchy widower and cute texts weren’t his style.

That Mina seemed to like him anyway made him the luckiest man in the world.

Levi tossed his phone on the unmade bed, stripped off his dirty clothes and headed for his shower.

HE HAD ONE towel wrapped around his waist and was drying his hair with another when he walked out of the bathroom and realized he wasn’t alone in his bedroom. Damp and chill settled into his skin when he lowered the towel from his head to his shoulder. There, sitting on his bed like something out of a dream, was Mina, in the red lace underwear she’d texted him about and nothing else.

“Damn,” he said.

“Hello to you, too.” A slow smile spread across her face. “I guess you like it.”

“I do.” The understatement of the year. The red made her skin look extra creamy and slightly pink, like she was the one who had just stepped out of the hot shower. He started at her toes and worked his way up her shapely legs and the thighs he’d been thinking about every night since he’d seen them clad in shorts that barely covered her ass.

Her breasts looked like little apples, and he took a deep breath to stop himself from rushing over to the side of his bed to lean in and give them a nibble right then. He’d start there and nibble his way down her body, spending time around her belly button and at the back of her knees so he could feel her legs wrapped around his head.

Suddenly aware of the tent in his towel, Levi dragged his gaze from Mina’s luscious body to her face. Her smile had turned into a satisfied grin.

He didn’t know how long he had been standing there staring at her. “I didn’t think you were actually going to wear the underwear over here. Or lie on my bed waiting for me.”

“Oh, I took pity on the neighbors and wore clothes. The underwear was underneath.”

He laughed, delighted. Because that was what she did to him.

“I can put my clothes back on,” she said, mischief and pleasure dancing together in her eyes. “Come back another time in different underwear.”

He took one determined step toward the bed. Then another and another, until his knees hit the mattress and he could run his hand over the rise of her breasts and down her smooth skin to rest on the curve of her hip. “Oh, you should come back another time in different underwear, but putting your clothes on now would be a waste of effort.”

“And you are against waste.” She said the words easily, like the relaxed conversation that seemed to slide out of her in all situations. But as he glided his hand around her hip to the soft skin of her ass, her muscles tensed, and she sucked in a breath.
