“Funnily enough, Brody, no one did ask you,” replied Kai slamming the door shut.

“Kai, I was doing you a favor. You were so adamant that you weren’t going to meet her. How do you know she isn’t the woman you’ll fall in love with and marry?”

Kai reared his head back, “Are you insane? d–”

“–We need you partnered off dude, you need a good woman to match your good heart,” Brody cut in.

“Did you kiss the back of her hand goodnight, like the good gentleman you are?” Josh smirked, reclining back on the couch, and resting his feet up on the coffee table.

“No! For your information, the whole thing was a disaster. The woman is as much infuriating in real life as she is hidden behind a computer screen.”

Josh started laughing and shook his head. “She’s got you properly wound up, hasn’t she?”

Silently, Kai moved towards the kitchen sink and poured his cold coffee down the drain. This was the last thing he needed this morning, these two having a laugh at his expense. It’s the same thing you did to Myla last night, Kai.

“Do you have plans to meet her again?” Josh sniggered, cutting through his thoughts.

Turning around to face them, he folded his arms across his bare chest and heaved a sigh in frustration. “We didn’t leave on good terms. She stormed out on me and left me cradling half a pint of beer.”

“What did you do, Kai? Brody asked, wide eyed and practically hyperventilating as he rose to his feet.

“I acted like a toss pot if you want the truth. So much for the ‘treat them mean’ hypothesis, eh lads?” He asked with raised eyebrows. “Remind me never to ask for, nor take any advice from you two chumps in the future.”

“I didn’t give you any advice, Kai. You didn’t even know about meeting her until I forcefully introduced you,” Brody snapped.

“What about the, no woman wants a Romeo Montague? All women want these days are Christian Greys?”

Laughing, Josh jumped to his feet to stand alongside Brody. “You tried to be like me, didn’t you? Quick-witted, challenging, outspoken?”

Snorting, Kai moved away from the sink and picked up his laptop. “No, I didn’t try to act like you Josh, please don’t flatter yourself,” he said dropping himself into the opposite couch and balancing the laptop on his legs.

“Do you fancy her?” Josh asked curiously, as he watched his friends’ facial movements. He spotted Kai’s jaw clenching, he closed his eyes and rested his head onto the back of the couch.

“When she isn’t spitting venom from that mouth of hers, she’s quite attractive. She has a beautiful smile that lights up her whole face, then she opens that mouth and her words spray out like a machine gun, killing everything in sight.”

A silence descended between them. Brody

and Josh stood waiting for Kai to continue, but he didn’t. “You’d like her Josh. She’s very womanly, curves in all the right places. She’s not your stick insect, slim gym-type woman,” Brody said as he nudged Josh in his ribs with his elbow. “She’s definitely a nine out of ten.”

“It’s like she brings out the worst in me. I don’t know how or understand why,” Kai grumbled, completely oblivious to Brody’s comment.

“You know what they say,” Brody began, “bitching and sniping between a man and a woman is a sign of passion,” he finished with a lop-sided grin.

Snapping his eyes open and sitting up straight, Kai fixed a cold glare in his direction. “Passion? I don’t think so, dude. The only passion between us is loathing.”

“Right, well I’m getting bored of this conversation now, so last question, are you going to be her fake fiancé?” Josh asked.

Kai burst out a thunderous laugh and his eyes grew. “I think I’d rather stick pins in my dick than be her fiancé for a week.”

“Well, that’s the end of that bullshit then!” Josh concluded. He finished the statement with a single clap of his hands.

“Not quite. She sent me a message this morning, apparently, I’m the only one suitable, she’s asked me if I’ll do it. She’s told me she will give me whatever I want if I’ll help her out for the week.” Kai declared.

“So, she’s begged you?” Josh asked with a humorous chuckle.

“There is only one thing you want, Kai, it’s the whole reason you are still working at Baxter’s,” Brody stated.

“I’ve got it!” Josh snorted. “We all know what you are working towards, what your ultimate life’s dream is. She won’t be able to pull that out of the bag.”
