“What? What do you mean?”

“It means, I’m going to send you into such a state of euphoria, you won’t even remember your own name, and that, Juliet, is a promise.” Without giving her chance to reply he placed a kiss behind her ear and one on the pulse in her neck. He smiled when he felt her body shudder and sway unsteadily under the heat of his mouth, then releasing his hands from hers, he moved away in to into the kitchen.

CHAPTER TWENTY

Myla spent an entire hour forcing herself to mingle with the unwanted guests, smiling, nodding, and talking about useless shit she really couldn’t care for, and all the while she had one eye firmly clamped on Kai, just so she could avoid him. If he came around the kitchen one way, she would veer the other way, if he smiled at her, she pretended she hadn’t seen him. On the one occasion, he finally caught up with her, she knocked her drink over him, accidentally on purpose, and made an escape through the commotion. He took it like the gentleman he is and stripped off his wine sodden shirt, right there in front of everyone, causing the older generation of ladies in the room to nearly have a fully-fledged coronary.

She smirked as she watched Nana Bet practically salivate over him and her bony fingers pinched his cheeks. He gently grabbed her hands and moved them from his face with a wide smile, seconds later her hands were back on his face again as she cooed loudly at him. His final words to her continued to reverberate in her head as her conscious and subconscious played tug of war with her feelings. It was a joke, right? No, he sounded deadly serious. I need some air. I can’t breathe.

“Excuse me, let’s continue this conversation later,” smiled Myla to her cousin Dean twice removed. She picked up her bag and headed to the garden. Digging out her cell phone as she strode down to the bottom of the garden, she checked the time, 1pm in Tallahassee, so it would be 8am in the UK. Perfect.

“Hello?” Said the familiar voice of Avery.

“Hey it’s me, Myla.”

“Hey babe, how’s it going back home? Has the witch fallen off her broomstick yet?”

Myla laughed loudly “Not yet, but the way things are heading she’s going to be pushed before she falls. How’s the Boutique? Everything running smoothly?”

Myla quizzed, nervously.

“Are you seriously calling me to check your shop is still standing?”

Myla rolled her eyes to the sky, and took a deep breath. “No, I need advice.”

“Advice? On what babe? Is everything okay?”

“It’s Kai.” She fiercely whispered down the phone. There was a sharp inhale before silence, Myla moved the cell away and looked at it before placing it back to her ear.

“Hold on Myla, one second,” Avery finally replied then a click sounded in her eardrum.

Myla began to pace up and down the garden as she waited for Avery to come back on the line. She spotted the naked torso of Kai make an appearance though the French doors, and he began looking around the garden. “Shit,” she muttered, throwing herself behind the nearest bush. Lying herself flat on her stomach she slowly inched herself forward, stealthily and peered around the bush. He was stood with his hands on his hips scanning his eyes around the garden with a frown. “Myla!” She heard shout through the phone.

“Hello?” She whispered, and shuffling herself back behind the bush, she sat herself upright.

“Sorry about that, why the hell are you whispering?”

“Because I’m hiding from Kai.”

“Why are you hiding from him?”

“Avery, I’m in deep fucking shit here. Deep shit,” she growled into her cell, her heart started pounding away in her chest.

“When you say deep shit, what do you mean by that?” She replied with concern evident in her tone.

“You’ve fucked him, haven’t you?” Another slightly higher pitched voice chimed in on their conversation causing Myla to mentally stab Avery. She began banging her fist to her forehead in irritation.

“For crying out loud Avery, you conference-called Cass in on this conversation?” She growled, annoyed.

“Cass is well-versed in this sort of shit Myla, you know if anyone gives good sex talk, it’s her.”

“So, have you shagged him yet?” Cass pressed.

“Hell, no.”

“So, what’s the problem?” Avery asked harshly.

“I …I …I,” Myla stuttered unable to find the right words.
