This is good, please keep talking, Myla.

“Seeing Darcy today has made you struggle with your emotions, hasn’t it? It’s brought everything back?”

She looked down to the floor and untangled her arms from his neck, sitting herself sideways in his arms. “Yes, but it’s not just about her and Casper, it brought back other shit from my past.”

“Juliet, I’m not going to push you to open up to me, if you’re not ready to tell me, that’s cool. I will wait until you are.”

His words warmed her entire core. A sense of calm washed over her pushing away all the anger and hatred she had felt earlier, she felt safe and protected in his arms as she rested her head on his collar bone. “I’ve never told anyone else before, I’m scared that once the words leave my mouth, that–”

Pulling his hand from hers, he placed it on the side of her neck and gently brought his lips to hers. His kiss was gentle and soft and instantly melted the doubts running through her mind.

“Whatever you tell me will go no further, I promise.” He replied pulling his mouth from her, his thumb stroked across her jaw.

“I was fifteen, and had been sent home from school early, sick. When I got home I thought the house was empty and went upstairs to my room. I heard noises, like muffled moans and I headed towards the door it was coming from. Something told me not to open the door, but ignoring the feeling of dread that was laying heavy in the pit of my stomach, I stupidly opened the door anyway.”

She stopped talking and began picking at the hem on her top, she lowered her head further down his chest and her right shoulder slumped forward. Kai stayed silent as he listened to her uneven breathing. Come on baby, don’t clam up on me now. He felt the thrum of her finger start against his knee and her breathing evened out. He placed his hand over hers and let out a loud hiss when she finally spoke, her voice was dull, flat, and emotionless.

“She was in bed with him. The look on their faces when they turned and saw me, I’ll never forget it. Her face we

nt bright red and her eyes turned dark as she roared at me. I couldn’t move, my body had frozen, my heart was hammering in my ears…”

Myla stopped talking, her body started to shake as she fought hard not to succumb to crying, but the harder she tried to fight it, the more forceful the tears stung at the back of eyes, within seconds the floodgates to her tears gave way. She was pushing herself to finally tell someone what happened that day, to finally be free of the secret that had tormented her as a teenager, the secret that had forced her to become the person she was today, a workaholic. Now she had started, she wasn’t sure she could go any further.

She felt Kai’s grip on her tighten and he rested his head on top hers, holding her as she wept. His warm hand, every now and then coming to her cheek and wiping away her tears, silently. Her hearing honed in on his heartbeat and she listened to it beat wildly against his chest, she closed her eyes and concentrated on the dull thud in her ear to eradicate the prevalent urge coursing through her arm to start tapping her finger again.

“What happened next, Myla?” He asked quietly. He swallowed back his urge to jump to his feet and beg her to spill her guts, he could see how painful this moment was for her, he could hear it in her voice and feel it in the way her body was trembling against his.

“I …I …” She stuttered through a raspy whisper.

“It’s okay, take a deep breath and take your time.”

With a deep inhale through her nose and an uneven exhale through her mouth, she gulped. “I can’t remember what happened exactly, it is all a blur, but next thing I know I’m on the floor in the doorway, her hands raining down on me, my stomach, my back, continually, over and over.”

His vision blurred as water crept into his eye lids and he closed them quick, he felt his chest tighten and the acrid taste of bile suddenly infiltrated his mouth. “Juliet,” he whispered, with his mouth feeling like sand, he tried to keep his voice even.

“I remember somehow getting myself free and crawled towards the stairs… and then it …happened,” she whimpered.

Pulling back from her sharply, he cradled her face in his hands and forced her to look at him. Her eyes were puffy and a snot bubble had formed at the end of her nose, “What happened?” He said sternly, “What did she do to you?”

Her eyes closed and she shook her head, his hands stayed clamped on her cheeks, he refused to let go of her, not now she had come this far. “I’m here, Myla still holding onto you. What did she do to you?”

Her forehead creased, her nose scrunched up and the tears continued to slowly fall, silently from behind her closed eyes. “She, …she grabbed me, still screaming, words I can’t remember …I tried to push her away and she pushed me back, then I lost my footing and …and fell down…the stairs …I was pregnant and …”

Kai’s stomach churned and he could feel the vomit slowly making its way up his throat. He moved his hands from her cheeks and pulled her head into his chest, rocking her while she sobbed. “It’s okay, Juliet. Get it all out.” He muttered. She wrapped her arms around his waist and balled his T-Shirt in her fists.

“How could Darcy do such a thing?” He mumbled. He felt her freeze, the sobbing ceased, and her chest stopped heaving. Shit! I asked that aloud? Dick head.

“It wasn’t Darcy,” she whispered.

Goose pimples broke out and prickled all over his body and he shuddered before he stilled, they were both clinging onto each other, both silent, both immobilized. It wasn’t Darcy?

He clenched his jaw tight and a feeling of urgency coupled with fear washed over him. “Who was it? And who was the man that was there, Myla?” He asked sternly through gritted teeth. He felt her loosen her grip on his top and she tried to pull away, holding her firmly he shook his head, and lowered his mouth to her ear, “I’m not letting you go,” he breathed.

Resuming to grabbing his top in her fists, she started to tremble again. “It was my mother, and the man was Mr. Banks. Darcy’s father.” she whispered.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

His entire body had turned to stone as her words echoed around in his head. It was her mother and Mr. Banks, Darcy’s father? How could a mother do that to her daughter? Hit her and then push her down the stairs? He was fighting so hard within himself, it was taking all his will power not to leave Myla and make his way into the house, drag Victoria’s ass to the top of the stairs and push her down them, after he had beaten seven bells of shit out of her first.
