“Isn’t that obvious, Myla? I can’t get over you, and if you need any more reasons? Then I needed to know you were okay, I needed to know that you were coping and I needed a way to hold onto you,” he replied, exaggerating his hands towards the paintings and his voice sounding exasperated.

She pursed her lips, her stomach somersaulted at his confession. Her heart was palpitating at a frivolous pace and the heat coursing through her body, erupted. “I wasn’t allowed to know how you were doing, my so-called friends kept telling me they hadn’t seen you or spoke to you,” she replied, quickly knocking back the water to cool herself down.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered as he removed his jacket and tie.

“Why are you sorry?”

“It’s my fault you didn’t know how I was because I asked them not to tell you, and before you get mad and go all gung-ho on me, my thought process behind that was because I didn’t want to be the reason for putting your recovery back.”

She pulled her lips into a thin line and nodded before placing down her empty glass. Turning away from him she walked towards another sold painting.

“Are you mad?” He asked quietly following her.

She shook her head but kept her lips drawn into her mou

th. Coming to a standstill she turned around to face him, her chest smacked straight into his and a loud gasp flew from her mouth. He hooked his hand under her elbow to steady her. “You’re not mad that I’ve been keeping tabs on you from a distance, but you’ve had no idea how I was?”

“No, I’m a little shocked considering your parting words to me, but I’m not mad. What’s the point in getting mad? It won’t change the last eight months,” she replied. Her eyes glanced to his lips before she raised them back up to meet his.

“So, by your reasoning then, would it be also safe to come clean and admit that I’ve also kept in contact with Grace & Jack?”

He’s kept in contact with everyone…. but me? She shut her eyes and began to count to ten in her head. He couldn’t let you go, Myla. Reaching her goal of ten, she took a deep unsteady breath and opened her eyes. “Anyone else you may have kept in contact with? Casper maybe or even Darcy?”

His other hand came to rest on her shoulder and she felt his grip slightly tense. “That’s unfair, Juliet.”

Shrugging herself from his grip she moved away from him. “I’m sorry, Kai, but you can’t expect me to hear that for the past eight months you’ve kept tabs on me, kept in contact with my family and coerced my friends into lying about you and take it all on the chin like that’s okay,” she paused for a breath when she felt the prickles of tears forming, “It’s been eating me up not knowing how you were, what you were doing, were you happy, were you missing me as much as I was missing you?” She shouted as the tears broke free and slid down her cheeks.

He rushed forward towards her but she took a step back. Her body collided with the wall and he swooped in like a bird about to eat its prey, placing his hands either side of her head, he barricaded her in place.

“I get you’re upset and hurt by my parting words, and by my actions after, and again, I apologize. But I’m not going to apologize for loving you, I’m not apologizing for caring so much about you that I couldn’t let go and I’m not going to apologize for the fact that I keep apologizing,” he said as his hands cupped the sides of her neck, his thumbs gently wiping her tears away. “I love you, Juliet, I never stopped loving you.”

He leant in and kissed the side of her neck and a low hum purred in the back of her throat. Her blood was now violently running through her, hot, thick, and fast, as he began to kiss down to her collarbone. She felt her skin tingle to life under the heat of his mouth, and she was becoming desperate to feel his lips on hers again. Her tears rapidly stopped when his hand brushed down the side of her body and around to her behind, cupping it he squeezed gently and continued his assault of her neck. “Fuck, Myla.” He grunted when she suddenly pushed herself into to him. He could feel the wild urge unleash itself within the depths of his gut and before he knew it she was up the wall, legs around his waist and she was attacking him back with the same rampant need.

She whispered his name repeatedly as she balled her hand into his hair and pulled. The husky way his name was rolling off her tongue was sending him to the brink of insanity. “Wait, Myla. Wait,” he panted against her neck. He felt her instantly freeze and she loosened her grip on his hair. “We can’t do this here, I don’t have anything with me.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed the side of his head. “I thought you were going to say you had changed your mind.”

He reared his head back and looked at her heated face, her eye make-up smeared, her hair practically falling from its hold and he shook his head, “Are you out of your damned mind?” He muttered fuck under his breath and screwed his face up in annoyance, “I didn’t mean those choice of words, Myla. I didn’t think.”

She smirked at his uncomfortableness before laughing, “It’s okay Kai, I don’t want you to be treading on egg shells, worried if you’re saying the wrong thing. To answer your question, yes, right now, I am out of my damned mind, because while I’m in your arms and you are trailing your fingers up and down the underside of my thigh, getting dangerously close to that place? I can’t think straight.”

His face flashed brightly at her response and his lips twitched into a grin, “Well, I’m glad I still have the same effect on you, as you do on me.” His brow creased into a worried frown and he bit on his bottom lip nervously, then huffed. “Juliet, in all seriousness, are you ready for me? For us? You know, to be together? Because if you’re not and you need more time—,”

She placed a finger over his mouth silencing him and she let out a contended sigh. “We’ve spent all this time apart, and deep down, I wasn’t sure if we would find our way back to each other. Now we have, I’m not letting you go because when I look at you all I can see is my future looking back at me.”

Muted into silence, he inched closer to her mouth and softly brushed his lips against hers, “Good, because I can’t let you go, not again.”

Grabbing his head with both her hands she crushed her mouth against his with a small giggle. Happiness soared through her as her love for him swept over her with such exaltation she wanted to scream it from the roof tops.

“Say those three words to me, Juliet,” he whispered. She moved her mouth to his ear and nipped at it playfully with her teeth.

“I love y—,” They both jumped out of their skin when a thunderous banging on the door to the warehouse broke through their intimate bubble.

“Ignore it,” Kai whispered and moved in for another kiss. With their lips moving in sync against each other, the loud banging started again.

“Fuck’s sake,” he snapped. Annoyed at the ill-timed interruption, he placed Myla back down to her feet.

“Who is it?” she whispered pulling the hem of her dress back down and running a hand through her hair trying to make herself look more presentable.
