Her heart beat like mad, her breath came in short bursts, and she watched, terrified, as the come in his hand began to drip through his fingers, moving down, down closer to her mouth ...

"Catherine? Catherine? Catherine!"

Catherine jerked awake, her head snapping up from her shoulder. She blinked in the bright room and turned her head in the direction of her name. The receptionist was staring at her, as were several patients in the waiting room.

"Catherine? The dentist will see you now," the receptionist told her.

"Um, thank you," Catherine said, and she stood up, her neck creaking as she did. Grabbing her purse, Catherine walked down the hall to the examination room.
