He shrugged. “The police won’t know you’re a doctor. It’s not such a stretch that a woman would come to get him out and make sure he’s okay.”

Pretending to be Keso’s lover. This felt too familiar.

“I got supplies,” Edmund continued. “Dr. Jean gave them to me, but there’s no way they’ll let him in to see Keso.”

Dr. Jean.He was a damn good doctor. One she trusted, but at seventy years old, he couldn’t risk facing off with Victor Roberts. Her gaze drifted to Arabella, pouring sand from one bucket to another to create a cake for her dog. What would happen to the innocent girl if Cameron went to the big island and ran into the bastard herself? Would Cameron suffer the same fate as Keira? Would Ara be orphaned? But how could she face her daughter if she left Keso to suffer… Or worse?

“Can you take me?”

Releasing a sigh of relief, Edmund nodded. “Right away. I’ll stay to bring you back.”

“I can’t take Ara. I need to find someone to stay with her.”

“Aimee has Esme’s girls,” he offered.

No. That was too much to ask of the other mother. Not to mention, Ara needed to take it easy. A night with all the children would likely result in more healing time for her ribs.

“Will you stay with her for now?” she asked, already heading to her cottage. “I’ll find Luci and get my bag.”

He nodded, then yelled after her, “Maybe wear something sexy.”

Well, hell.
