“Gonna do the right thing and take care of my family.”

“‘Cause you wanna or ‘cause you have to?” Trip asked with one eyebrow cocked.

“‘Cause I wanna. Don’t ever want her doubtin’ that. Don’t ever want you doubtin’ that, either. I’ll be here for her, for our kid and for you, Prez. That’s a fuckin’ guarantee.”

“Good thing you said guarantee instead of promise, because promises are easily broken,” Trip tilted his head, “just like rules.”

Chapter Twenty

“Should we be doing this?” Easy asked Tessa. “It’s okay?”

“It’s finally okay.”

Finally? “What does that mean?”

“It means it’s okay. With me. With Carly. And more importantly, with Trip.”

He blew out a breath. “Yeah, I guess. Not that I care about Trip puttin’ a stamp of approval on us havin’ sex tonight.”

“It’s probably best if we don’t run that past him first.”

“You ain’t tellin’ me anythin’ I don’t know. But here’s the thing… He’s gonna need to take a fuckin’ step back and let me handle my family the way I wanna handle it. He’s gonna be this baby’s uncle. Not father, not grandfather. I’m the father. I get to decide what’s best for us.”

“Don’t forget, I get a say, too,” she reminded him.

“Yeah, babe, of course you do. We’re in this together. Any-fuckin’-way, your brother’s already in our business enough, he don’t need to be in our bed, too.” Technically, the bed they were lying in wasn’t their bed, it was Tessa’s. But he’d be sharing it with her while they both stayed at Cage and Jemma’s.

“He did say he’d try not to interfere… too much.”

Easy snorted, then quickly regretted it since his nose wasn’t quite done healing yet. It also took a while for the broken blood vessel in his right eye to disappear and reminders of his injuries still remained all over his body. They were a variety of shapes, sizes and colors yet.

He was a fucking mess.

His life was a fucking mess.

But thanks to Cage and Jem, he didn’t have to hoof it back to the bunkhouse every night. Until Easy found him and Tessa a place together, they were welcome to stay. He figured it was because they didn’t want to lose Tessa as their house mouse.

Even so, they couldn’t stay forever. Jem and Cage’s place was a nice size but it would get a bit crowded after a while for four adults and an active two-year-old once the baby was born.

More importantly, Easy wanted privacy. Especially for what was about to happen…

“Since my swimmers already made land and neither of us have had red, inflamed genitals or questionable warts, guessin’ we no longer need to use a wrap.”

“I guess not. But… warts?” She scrunched up her nose and it was surprisingly sexy.

“Yeah, I… Never mind.” He kept his expression neutral.

“Please tell me you’re kidding.”

“I’m kiddin’. Never had genital warts, just crabs.”

“Crabs?” Her question came out in a squeak louder than he’d like. Cage and Jemma’s master bedroom was only across the hall. Another reason for them to move out as soon as Easy could get his shit together.

Luckily, he and Tessa both had months of practice at keeping the noise down whenever they fucked. And now that he knew the doc cleared it, he was fucking her good tonight. “Yeah, in prison. One of my cellies had them so we all got them.”

“You had sex with your cellmate?”

“He was pretty hot, actually. From the back he looked like a woman. He had really big moobs, too.” Easy made a squeezing motion with both hands like he was honking tits.

She fake gagged. “I don’t want to have sex now.”

“You know I’m fuckin’ with you, right?”

“Are you?”

Easy grinned. “Yeah, I’m not into man boobs or hairy asses.”

“Note to self: ass hair is a turn-off for my future ol’ man, so shave my cheeks regularly.”

He laughed, then quickly sobered when what she said sunk in. “You serious about me bein’ your ol’ man?”

“Is that what you want?”

“Tess, know this is all goin’ a helluva lot faster than either of us wanted, but…” he nodded, “yeah. Want you to wear my cut. We also need to get our own place before our kid comes.”

“E, you don’t have to stay here with me, if you don’t want to. You can stay in the bunkhouse.”

“Yeah, I know, but Cage and Jem said it was okay.”

“I meant not only now, but after the baby’s born. Think about it, we can raise this kid together but we don’t need to be together to do it. I don’t want you to feel obligated.”

Her uncertainty about the two of them bugged the shit out of him. But he understood where it stemmed from. Her mother had trapped a man by getting pregnant. She didn’t want him to feel trapped like that.

While he appreciated that, Tessa needed to remember that her parents weren’t them.
