Easy shrugged on his cut over his ripped and bloody T-shirt. Once he was done, he turned and stood eye to eye with Tessa’s brother. “Yeah, I do.”

“You can’t make that demand. ‘Cause I can’t imagine you’re fuckin’ my sister behind my back, right?”

Even though he knew it wasn’t going to fly, he said it anyway. “She just asked for a ride.”

Trip’s mouth drew tight. “On your sled or your dick?”

“Trip…”

“In the middle of the fuckin’ night?”

“We didn’t want everyone to talk.”

“Uh huh,” Trip muttered, “didn’t want everyone to talk.” With hands on his hips, he dropped his head and shook it. “Bullshit.” He lifted it again until Easy could see his dark eyes just under the bill of his cap. “You worried about other people talkin’ instead of openin’ your fuckin’ mouth and talkin’ to me. Think anyone would’ve fuckin’ cared if you took Tessa out for a ride on your new sled if that was all it was? Lee rode on runs with just about everyone and no one said a fuckin’ word. So, that excuse is goddamn bullshit.”

The ER was not the place to have this conversation, especially with Trip’s temper. Easy could see it was ramping up.

Trip gave Easy his back and his shoulders lifted slowly as he took a deep breath. As soon as they lowered and loosened a little, he said, “Just so you know, Sig took the rollback and went to get your sled. He’s gonna drop it off at Dutch’s.”

He didn’t want to talk about his bike. He didn’t give a fuck about his bike right now, but if that was keeping Trip from unraveling while in the hospital, then… “It totaled?”

“You didn’t see it?”

“Was too worried about Tessa.”

Trip turned in place, a muscle jumping in his cheek. “As you should’ve been. Now you should worry about me.” He tipped his chin a little higher, locked gazes with Easy and said in a tight tone, “Glad you lived through that crash, ‘cause now I get to kill you myself.”

“The waiting room is jam-packed with your family. I’ll send some in once we set your arm and get it in a cast. Luckily it’s a clean break and should heal without an issue as long as you follow instructions. But if everything else checks out okay, you’ll be able to go home today.”

Good. She did not want to be there. They had already poked her with too many needles and did a complete examination on her, including X-rays. Besides the broken arm and mild concussion, she’d also have a bunch of bruises on top of her scrapes.

“We’re also sending you home with a sling for your broken arm since your rotator cuff was hyperextended during your crash. You are really lucky, Ms. Colby. Especially since you weren’t wearing a helmet. Let’s just say, someone was looking out for you.”

Someone other than Easy? No. It was Easy’s fast reflexes, being an experienced biker and the fact he had slowed down prior to them getting slammed by the deer that saved them both from any major life-changing injuries.

“Are you having any cramping right now?”

Cramping? “No, but I’m stiff and really sore. I’m not sure the Tylenol is going to cut it. How is Easy?”

The doctor stared at her blankly.

“Ethan…” Fuck, she didn’t even know his last name. She never had a reason to. “The man brought in with me.”

“He’s a lot better off than you.”

Tessa doubted that. Maybe he got away without broken bones during the accident, but as soon as Trip put two and two together that would more than likely change.

No, Easy wasn’t walking away from the wreck without any consequences.

“Okay, so here’s the game plan. We’re going to put the cast on your arm first, then someone will be in to wheel you up to the third floor for an ultrasound.”

“An ultrasound for my head? I was already told the concussion is mild.”

The doctor looked at her funny. “It is. But the ultrasound isn’t for your head… it’s for the baby.”

Tessa blinked. “What baby? We didn’t have a baby with us.”

His forehead scrunched together. She could pretty much guarantee hers looked the same.

He moved closer to her bedside, his confusion turning into concern. “You didn’t know?”

“Know…”

“That you’re pregnant.”

She definitely had banged her head pretty good. Either she was very confused due to her head injury or the doctor was. “No, that’s impossible. I’m not pregnant.”

“That’s not what your bloodwork says.”

Her pulse began to pound in her throat and ears. “Then, you got someone else’s mixed up with mine.” A simple but unfortunate mistake.

The doctor grabbed her chart, scanned it, then snagged her arm to check the info on her wristband.

Tessa jerked her good arm out of his grip.

“I’m guessing this pregnancy wasn’t planned. Most women’s first concern after an accident is with the baby. I thought it odd that you haven’t asked once.”
