“And same with you, Shania,” said Pepper. “So, it’s actually kind of a good thing that you’re both here.”

“You wanted to talk to us both about something?” I asked. “What is it?”

Did they somehow find out about our history together and felt the need to run an intervention? No, that didn’t make a damn bit of sense. But it was the best thing I could think of. Which wasn’t very good at all.

Sam clasped her hands together and went into it.

“So!” she said. “You know how we’re all getting married, right?”

“Oh, is that right?” asked Shania with a grin. “Hadn’t heard.”

Sam reached over and gave her a playful tap on the arm. I said nothing, instead scooping a big helping of lo mien onto my plate. I was curious, but I was also hungry as hell.

“And you know that we’ve all been having a hell of a time getting a venue booked for the ceremony.”

“No kidding,” said Will. “There’s like ten places in the city where everyone wants to get married. And they’re all booked up for the next year.”

“Were booked up,” said Pepper, raising her finger. “Right at the moment we were about to lose hope and say ‘screw it’ and drive to Vegas, we got some good news.”

“Well, good news for us,” said Noah. “Not good news for the investment banker whose fiancé realized that she wasn’t as straight as he thought she was and ran off with her Pilates instructor.”

“Hey,” said Sam. “You’ve gotta take whatever break you can get.”

“True,” said Noah.

“Anyway,” said Pepper. “There ended up being a cancelation at the Ebell of Los Angeles—maybe the most gorgeous wedding spot in the city.”

Already I could see the issue.

“But only one cancelation,” I said.

“Right,” said Will. “One open spot, two weddings.”

“So,” said Pepper. “The four of us got together and did a little discussing. And we decided that the best thing to do wouldn’t be to fight over who gets it.”

“It’d be to share it!” said Sam, her eyes lighting up.

Shania and I shared another wide-eyed expression.

“That’s…one way to solve the problem,” she said.

“So,” I said. “Like, a double wedding?”

“That’s exactly it!” said Pepper. “We figured that we’ve all been friends for so long, what about sharing the date?”

It was…kind of impressive, to say the least. Not that either of the ladies had struck me as the type to get into bridezilla-esque madness, but it was very big of them.

“That sounds so awesome!” said Shania, clasping her hands together. “It’s going to be the biggest wedding LA’s ever seen!”

“That’s what we’re hoping,” said Noah. “Well, within reason. Not exactly into a paparazzi extravaganza.”

“Two of the guys from one of the biggest bands of the 2000s are getting married to two beautiful women in the city on the same day,” I said. “It’s going to be like catnip for those types.”

“We’ll do our best to head them off at the pass,” said Will. “But we’ll worry about that as the date approaches.”

“Right,” said Pepper. “Because right now, well, there’s some much more pressing news that we want to discuss.”

“More pressing than the double-wedding announcement?” asked Shania.

The four of them shared a look, one that was both eager and conspiratorial all at once.

“You want to tell them?” Noah asked Pepper.

“Sure.” She turned toward me and Shania, a big grin on her face.

“You two,” she said. “Are going to be the best man and maid of honor.”

I turned to Shania, who was as wide-eyed as I had to be.

There were only two words that could be on either of our minds, and she beat me to them.

“Holy shit.”

Chapter Eight

SHANIA

It was two days after the big announcement, and I was on my way to a meeting that had been making me nervous as all get-out since I’d jotted it down into my day planner.

It wasn’t with a loan officer or a property development type for my future spa—I wished. No, it was a little get-together with Sean Maddox.

After we’d gotten the news of the double wedding and the roles he and I would be playing in it, we’d done the oh-so-mature thing and went right back to ignoring each other the way we’d been doing since we’d come back into one another’s lives.

Smart, right?

Fortunately, one of us had managed to exercise a touch more maturity and reach out to the other. Unfortunately, the one of us hadn’t been me. Nope, it was Sean who’d sent me a text yesterday afternoon letting me know both that he loved the moisturizer and that he and I should probably, maybe, kinda-sorta get together to make sure that we were on the level about how the next couple of months were going to be play out.

After all, we’d be seeing a lot of each other, and neither of us wanted our little dramatic history to make things more complicated for (deep breath) Will and Sam and Pepper and Noah’s (whew!) big day.
