Add keeping his real reason for coming a secret with my insecurities and there is a recipe for disaster.

I’ve learned never to expect anything good to come from a handsome man taking an interest in me.

I never expect them to stay or for anything to be real.

I guess I was more afraid of losing Kyle than him not telling me his plan from the start so I decided to leave first.

Ugh. I’m an idiot.

It’s too late now though, I ruined it all.

I guess it’s better to feel this hurt now before I got in too deep.

But who am I kidding?

I’m in love with Kyle.

I love him, and the only person who hurt me so far is me…

But would he give me a second chance?

I could tell him… Better yet.

I could show him how much I love him. How much he really means to me.

I can’t lose him over a stupid fight just because my overactive imagination conjured a problem that isn’t real.

It’s like I’m purposely trying to ruin any chance at happiness for myself.

The chime of the doorbell makes me jump, but only for a second.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Kyle

I drive and then I drive some more, but I’m calmer than I was on the way to the diner earlier.

Having my teams from the office just show up without warning kinda threw me. I certainly didn’t expect half the office to come down.

Maybe they missed having me around?

But if Rick’s worth his weight, he’ll be sending me Jacinta’s home address soon and then we can put this whole business behind us.

Thinking it over from every possible angle I can only reach the same conclusion: Jacinta is mine and when I find her everything will be fine.

It just has to be.

Whatever set her off is ancient history as far as I’m concerned and although I’m not used to anyone walking away from me I like her fire.

I more than just like it, who am I kidding?

But I just wish she could redirect that sass, that temper into something more intimate we could both share in a positive way.

Rick doesn’t text me though.

He calls and tells me before I can answer that he has more than just an address for me.

Jacinta’s mom, Adelle is more than annoyed we’ve turned up unannounced, furious too that the owner of the diner and old mill is ready to sign it all away.

But Rick explains to me it’s already done, the ink isn’t even dry and they already have the green light from the mayor and the town’s legal team who are ready for their check.

“Adelle’s pissed because she doesn’t own her home anymore… It’s not hers to sell—”

“Just gimme the fucking address, Rick,” I growl, cutting him off.

Adding that he can jerk off about the deal all he wants once he’s off the phone.

Since meeting Jacinta I’ve discovered a bigger, better thrill than buying and selling.

It’s called… Me and her buck naked, my mouth over her pussy and her hands all over my throbbing member.

God, I want her now more than ever.

Need to be balls deep inside her, putting a baby in her belly. That way she’ll have to stay with me.

Something tells me she’d want the chance to be a mom.

A better mom than what she’s got?

I can’t say having only just met Adelle as well as her daughter. But I know Jacinta would make the best mom.

The perfect wife too.

Her mom’s likely pissed because there’s no real mention of her keeping her position at the diner if it sells, which it looks like it already has.

But as much as I know she dislikes me right now, I’ll make sure Adelle keeps her job.

If that’s what she really wants.

But first things first. I gotta get my hands on her daughter long before I worry about her mom’s job.

I use the voice activated GPS in the car and discover I’m only minutes away from the address Rick gave me.

Pulling up to the house, I feel my mouth go dry and my chest ache. Yes, it’s got four walls and a roof, sure. But no girl of mine is gonna spend another night in a tiny place like this, let alone the rest of her days.

Jesus. Are all the houses in town really like this?

Apart from realizing we might be offering too much cash for houses, I have a better idea for this whole proposal.

We could make it more appealing for the original townsfolk to stay as well as sell up their empty land and old houses.

Maybe shift our thinking so we include more local talent too.

Cherry has a tiny population, sure. But I’m sure there are a lot of skills and ideas in some of those sleepy old-timers hanging out at the diner.

Hell, there’s even a lake that looks like it could be teeming with fish, perfect for a cabin-style resort.
