Choyce

Even though Lavenderwas present during their date, Choyce could tell something was bothering her. Last night, they had a picnic and watched a movie in the bed of his pickup truck before deciding to head downtown to grab drinks. Tonight, Choyce wanted to do something more special and intimate. It was her last night in Memphis, and it seemed like the past week had gone by in a blur. As much as Choyce wanted to keep Lavender for himself, he knew her biggest priority would be her sister. Lavender managed to prioritize her time in a way that allowed her to not only be with both of them but have time to herself as well.

Tonight, he pulled out his dark blue Pagani Huayra to ride his woman around in style. Choyce may have preferred his privacy and hated large crowds, but having Lavender on his arm changed that. She wasn’t just his weakness, she was his most prized treasure, and Choyce wanted everyone to see the beauty on his arm. After a night of dinner followed by a paint and sip event, Choyce took her to his favorite rooftop hotel for a small set that included those closest to him. Along with weed and wine, there was space for dancing and skating.

“Can we talk before I start smoking?” Lavender asked, sitting on Choyce’s lap. She’d just come back from talking to Jasmine, who was ducked off in a corner with Mercy, away from the smoke.

“Yes. What’s on your mind?” he asked, squeezing her hip through the dark gold mini dress she wore. He loved seeing her in dresses and heels. Not only did her femininity and softness provide an atmosphere for his masculinity to shine, but Choyce was a visual creature—there was no work of art more beautiful to him than a black woman’s body… now his black woman’s body.

“Yesterday was the first time I ever visited my parents’ graves. My sister is six months pregnant with her first child. She’s married.” Lavender rested her forehead on his. “I’ve missed so much… all because of hurt and hate. If I just would have talked to you instead of running away…”

“Hey,” he called softly, cupping her cheek and forcing her to look into his eyes. “You had been dealt three major blows. You were fighting for your sanity and your life. No one can judge or blame you for the way you coped and protected yourself.”

“That’s true, but she’s been here all along.” Her eyes watered, but she blinked them dry. “Ten years, babe,” she stressed quietly.

“You’re allowed to feel what you feel, but what are you going to do to come out of it?” Choyce pushed her wavy hair out of her face and cupped her cheeks.

“I know I need to focus on the present instead of dwelling on the past. I’ve been so empty, and I had nothing to fill it with but memories.”

“Well… now you have the chance to create new memories with her and me.”

After kissing his lips sweetly, Lavender confessed, “You keep saving me. This time, from myself.”

“You saved me, too. That night. I would have lost my shit if it wasn’t for you. And even after that, you motivated me to do what was right and make sure they couldn’t hurt anyone else the way they hurt you and your family. I can’t tell you how much it means to me to finally have you back.”

She rubbed her nose against his, smiling widely. “I’m proud of you, Choyce. I knew you would do great things. It took a lot of courage to carve your own path and make the choices you made. You’re truly one of one, babe. There is none like you.”

“Keep on with that shit, and I’ma try to put a baby in you, too.”

Her head flung back, and her giggle was a far sweeter melody than the one crooning through the speakers.

“I want to be stingy with you for a little while longer, but I wouldn’t mind going half on a baby with you soon. There’s a lot of shit I need to work on internally, though.”

“I’m glad you said that because I agree. I meant it when I said love covers hate, but I also believe you still have a lot of healing to do and that’s okay. You have Jazzy now. I know she’s going to help you grieve your parents in a healthy way.”

“I think so, too.” Her grin spread before she giggled again. “I can’t stop smiling and laughing and I haven’t even gotten high yet. I got my sister back and I’m smitten just being with you. I’m so happy right now.”

“You were beautiful broken, but happiness looks so damn good on you.”

Her cheeks heightened as she smirked. “My pussy is so wet right now. Do you know how much I want you?”

“You can show me. I booked us a room here for the night.”

With a squeal, Lavender stood and used his hand to lift him from his seat. “Let’s go.”

“Hey,” he called, halting her steps, then pulling her close. His hand wrapped around her neck and tilted her head so she could look into his eyes. “The first night we made love… I apologize for not wrapping up. Feeling my dick in your mouth had me on the verge of cumming. That’s no excuse, but I won’t be careless like that with you again.”

“Baby,” she said softly with a sweet smile. “Thank you for that, but it wasn’t just you. I was caught up in the heat of the moment, too. But we’re good. I’m on birth control. Plus, I enjoyed feeling just you.”

“You’re the only woman I’ve ever not used a condom with.”

“And you’re the only man I’ve let inside without one. I trust you, but if you want us to get tested before we do that again, I’m cool with that, too.”

Choyce chuckled. “It’s too late for that now, and I’m really sorry about that. I’m clean and I do trust you. I’m usually more careful. It’s just… something about you, Lav. You unravel me.”

Her eyes fluttered shut. When they opened, they were filled with pure need and desire.

“And you hold me together. Maybe that’s why this feels so right. So necessary.”

“I couldn’t agree more.”

Lowering his lips to hers, Choyce whispered a declaration of love against them before kissing her deeply.

“Aight, let’s go,” he broke away to say, knowing he was seconds away from picking her up and placing her against the wall…
