He’s right, but that doesn’t matter, not now. “Get out. Now!”

He nods, and I can see at that moment that he’s Ace, cocky and arrogant, not a nice guy like Mark.

“Fine, I’ll go because I know you’ll be dreaming about that kiss for the next week. You’ll be touching your sweet rich girl pussy to that kiss for weeks, thinking about where it could have gone next if you weren’t so hung up on jobs and titles.”

“I am not,” I shoot back, offended by that little dig.

“You are,” he growls, low and deep. The sound hits me right at my core, and my breath hitches but only for a moment.

“It’s fine. I’m not ashamed that I made out with a hot chick who only works at a pizza joint because I am an adult.”

His words embarrass me, and I don’t know why. “Get out.” My cheeks flame with heat and humiliation. “Please, just go.”

Ace gives a curt nod as his tongue flicks out to moisten his lips. “I’m going, just do me a favor and find out anything you can about Grace’s boyfriend and what she was up to when she wasn’t with you.”

My hands bunch and flex until they end up in tight fists as a low growl escapes. “Stop telling me what to do!”

“See you real soon, Princess McKenna.” With another nod, he winks and flashes that killer smile that makes my belly do somersaults. Then he leaves.

I let out a low sigh as I lock the door and engage the security system. Any other day I might love that nickname, Princess McKenna. I would have adored it, but from Ace’s lips, it sounded like a slur. Like something bad.

Even still, my fingertips go to my tingling lips that were still on fire from Ace’s kiss.

Ace.

Ace is right. Long after he’s gone, I’m still hot and bothered, turned on beyond belief, all because of a kiss. A small kiss in the grand scheme of things. Just a kiss that turned my whole world upside down and set me on fire from head to toe.

I go upstairs in search of any kind of relief I can find from the heat swirling in my body. Ace’s kiss, the feel of his lips, and his scruff against me heats up my body slowly at first. Then the vibrations from my electronic bunny rocket through my body, though they are nowhere near what I need, but it’s the next best thing, so I go with it.

My back arches and my toes curl as pleasure barrels through me. Ecstasy is imminent until his other words hit me. I’m not ashamed of making out with a hot chick who only works at a pizza joint. Only.

That only burrows under my skin, effectively killing my orgasm faster than the sound of my father’s voice. That’s me, a girl who works at a pizza joint. It’s what the world sees, and for all my judgments and my attitude, it’s how most people probably think of me.

They don’t know I work there because I like it, because it gives me something to do. They don’t know that I could quit at any time and never, ever have to worry about money.

All the world sees is a bitchy cashier who makes just above the minimum wage and thinks she’s better than them.

Talk about a lady boner killer.

Chapter Eight

Ace

As much as it pisses me off to leave McKenna’s house without any answers, it’s the best option at the moment. She’s still in shock, and my questions didn’t help the matter.

God, I am a dick.

Hopefully, when she’s cried herself out, she’ll be able to dig into her friend’s life and find the man who is very likely the reason for her death.

One way or another, that mystery man is the key to finding who murdered Grace and, more importantly, why.

And why on my turf?

I’ll get my answers soon enough, so I shake off thoughts of McKenna as best I can. Then, I head to the other side of Angel Harbor, toward the clubhouse that serves as Reckless Souls headquarters.

The drive is too short to provide any relief from McKenna’s hot body or anything else, so I rev the engine and get to the club as quickly as I can.

The parking lot is full, and I smile because I know half the guys are inside bullshitting over beers, and the other half are just hanging out. It’s just the relaxing evening I need.

“Ace, you got a minute?”

I look over my shoulder and see Coop heading my way. “Sure, what’s up?”

He runs to catch up with me and spears a hand through his hair. “It’s Kelsey. I’m worried about her.”

Of course, he is. “She’s been through a lot, Coop. Give her time to get back to normal.”

“It’s not that. I think it’s McKenna, or what happened with her friend Grace. I’m not sure, not exactly, but I need some advice about what to do?”
