“We’re not done,” Shae said as they had discussed what their dad had done. “The Keith family is still here. It’s in us, the three of us, as it always has been.”

“I agree,” Shiya said. “Plus our men and…”

“And what?” Sakura prompted.

Shiya touched her belly. “I’m pregnant.”

Everyone gasped. Roger raised his hand. “Who’s the father?”

Kotori—Sakura had learned the Native American one’s name—started for Roger, but the other man, Birk, stopped him. “Calm, down, Kotori. The little fox isn’t even a whole meal.”

“Hey,” Adam quipped, and Birk offered him an apology on her behalf.

“What about you, Shae?” Sakura asked.

Shae put her hand out, and the silent Eiji took it in his. He didn’t show much expression, but she sensed his deep love for Shae and was satisfied he would take care of her sister.

“We’re going to try, but not yet. I’m still getting adjusted.”

Sakura nodded.

“What about you, big sis?” Shiya asked. “Are you and Adam going to try for some rugrats?”

“Never!” Sakura said.

“Yes,” Adam said.

Sakura glared at him. “I guess you’ve figured it out if he hasn’t told you. We’re two different species. He’s a bear, and I’m a fox. I’m not having some weirdo mutant children with the head of a bear and bodies of foxes, or some other strange combo.”

“Highly unlikely,” Birk commented.

“He’s a vet,” Shiya supplied, pride in her tone.

Sakura looked at Shae, and the two of them laughed. Shiya smacked their arms, which only made them crack up more. Sakura sighed. Being silly with her sisters felt good, even in the face of what they had learned, maybe even because of it. She didn’t realize until she saw them how much she had needed them. For the rest of the day, they sat together chatting, catching up, and discussing plans for the future. Adam arranged for a caterer to come in for meals. Apparently, a house full of shifters—except for Shiya who was still human—took a lot of food. Sakura had decided she wasn’t very hungry but went ahead and ate anyway when Adam threatened to take her on his lap and force feed her. The man was getting out of control.

“What about Kasen?” Shiya said, and everyone fell silent.

Their brother was an evil son of a bitch that Sakura never liked very much. She had never let him bully her, but she knew he had tried to do it with her sisters, especially after she started travelling for work and hardly came home.

“He’s going to be neutralized,” Roger said.

Sakura surged to her feet. “You’re not killing my brother, Roger. I don’t care who Deveron thinks he is. You tell him if he even tries anything, he’s going to have to answer to me.”

Roger held up his hands. “I said neutralized, not killed. Deveron is not trying to run a shifter nation—yet.” He smirked. “But you have to admit, Kasen can’t keep commanding a bunch of trained killers to knock off our kind.”

“True,” Adam said, “but we will deal with him, from inside the family.”

Sakura smiled at her lover, and he winked. She glanced away from him before he stirred up her libido and the whole damn room knew about it.

“What about Dad?” Shiya whispered.

“He’s…” Adam began and scratched the back of his head, a nervous gesture. Sakura realized she hadn’t spoken to him about where her dad was. She hadn’t wanted to think about him despite her mind being filled with the story he told of her mother’s last day on earth. Adam cast her a sympathetic glance, and she knew it wasn’t good. “He seemed to get progressively worse with his confession. He might need psychological treatment. For now, I’ve checked him into a facility for evaluation.”

Sakura couldn’t believe it. Her dad, the strongest man she had ever known, had snapped. She had seen the beginnings of it at the end of their conversation and wondered if there would ever come a day when he was okay again. Some part of her hoped so while another didn’t want to care.

“We’ll visit him together,” Shae said, and Sakura and Shiya agreed.

Birk strode over and held out a hand to Shiya. She touched fingertips to his palm, and he guided her to her feet. Sakura watched as he drew her gently against his chest. “You need to rest now.”
