“I told you, Sage. I’ll choose you over anyone.” He gave me a small smile.

“How’d you get my car?” I asked, wondering how he’d known I had left it at my house.

“I still had the truck keys. I went there, only to find your car instead. Good thing I had the extra key for that one too.”

He frowned, and I rested my hand on his arm.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“I didn’t have a way to get to your house.” He sighed, his eyes not leaving the road. “I called my mom and told her I was sorry and that I’d come clean about everything. When she got to the house, I told her I was sorry and then took her keys.”

“Niko,” I choked out. “I’m sorry.”

“I’m fine,” he said gruffly. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen my mom so disappointed. But she’s fine. I’m sure my dad got her hours ago.”

“I’m sure it was hard,” I mumbled, not sure what to say. He’d done it for me.

“Is this the parking area?” he asked, changing the subject.

“Yeah,” I answered as Niko pulled up next to the truck.

“They never would have thought to look for that beast of a truck,” he said as he shook his head.

“That was the point.”

“What’s so important that you needed to stop and get the truck?” he asked curiously.

I hesitated. “I’ll show you when we get to wherever we’re going.”

“Are you good to drive? Or do you want to leave one of the cars here?”

“I’m fine,” I promised, not wanting to come back up north for a very long time. “I can drive.”

I slid behind the wheel and followed him out of the parking lot. The full moon was still high in the sky, and a shiver ran through me. I had almost died. If Niko hadn’t shown up, I would have disappeared like all those other women. Getting that book to expose them would have been worth it. But the happiness was pumping through my body.

I couldn’t wait to get out of the car and look through that book. My stomach dropped when I remembered who that included. Niko. I didn’t know exactly what was in the book, but I knew it would be enough to get him taken down with the rest of them.

I was so torn. I didn’t want him to be a part of them anymore. I wanted him to be free. But I didn’t think it was possible if I turned over this book. I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel. It wasn’t if. It was when. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t do it.

I was going to give it to Kiara, and the society was going to be in the public eye.

I parked behind Niko in the driveway and stared at the small brick house. This was another place I never wanted to come back to. But Niko was right. It was safe. After turning off the truck, I grabbed my phone and canceled the email to Kiara. I could give her the book in person now. I texted her the address and that I had what we needed.

I slid the book out from under the seat and stepped down from the truck. The sun was just starting to come up, and the sky was a beautiful pink. With the book in my arms, I followed Niko to the garage door he had already opened. His truck sat there, like it had been since Geo had taken me.

A lump grew in my throat as I walked into the house. There wasn’t a trace of what happened. The mirror that Geo had thrown me into was gone from the wall. I couldn’t see any blood on the floor.

Meeting Niko’s gaze, I stiffened when his eyes traveled down to the book in my arms. His face changed to surprise and then understanding.

“You did all of this for that book, huh?”
