I frowned, not sure where she was taking this. “I won’t help you run. There’s nowhere you can go that they won’t find you.”

“But you’ll help me. In other ways. Right?”

The tension suddenly shifted as her eyes went down to my bare chest. Biting her lip, she raised her gaze back to mine, and an entirely new emotion took over her face. She wasn’t struggling to get away anymore.

“I need to hear you say it, Sage,” I demanded gruffly. If she gave me the answer I wanted, it was only going to make my conflicting thoughts worse.

“I don’t want to take care of myself anymore,” she murmured, need filling her voice. “I want you to do it. Can you help me in that way?”

Ignoring the internal screaming that this was a bad idea, I released her wrists. Pulling her off the floor, I lifted her up, and her legs wrapped around my waist. I walked forward until her back hit the wall. I waited for her to stop me. To come to her senses. But she didn’t.

I shouldn’t get in any deeper with her. It was too big a risk for either of us. Her arms went around me as I pressed my body into hers, and I realized it was too fucking late. I was already in so deep with her that I didn’t want to reach the surface again. Not if it meant I had to leave her alone.

I trailed my lips up her neck. “I can do that.”
