Pete’s gaze darts past me to the door, twelve feet away.

“I think you can manage.”

So much for being a gentleman. I suppose I have led him on something of a merry chase tonight. He probably thinks if this isn’t my house either, he’s not going to risk getting caught trespassing again.

My hand lands on the door handle, and I turn to him with a grin.

“Do you know what my favorite thing about my building is?”

He leans forward, looking up at the building through the windshield. It doesn’t look like much because it’s not really. There’s only one thing that made it a must-have for Bee and me when we were looking.

“It has a heated rooftop pool.”

Pete’s eyebrows raise slowly as he turns back to me, eyeing me coolly.

“I suppose that would make it a memorable place to live.”

I grin mischievously at him, waggling my eyebrows. “I can’t think of a better way to end a snowy night than a midnight swim in a heated pool with snowflakes falling around.”

A low growl rumbles out of Pete, and I suck in a breath. Okay, that was seriously hot. He reaches over, grabbing at my wrist, but I have already shoved out of the car, slamming the door shut in his face as he leans across the seat.

I get as far as the front door before he catches up, following me inside.

“Acting the gentleman now, I see,” I tease. He glowers at me, following me into the elevator.

Despite my provocations, he is still standing as far away from me inside the elevator as he can. The doors open with a ping, and he sweeps his arm, gesturing for me to lead the way. Flashing a grin as I pass him, I skip down the hallway to my door. I’m on the fourth floor, the rooftop pool is above the eighth, but if I’m about to go swimming, I need my bikini and a towel.

I dig through my purse in search of my keys when we reach my door. My fingers brush the corner of a card and close around it. I had business cards with my name and contact details made up.

I always take them to these events I hostess at, just in case I meet someone who offers me an internship or something – something not an offer for sex. I wouldn’t mind giving one to Pete. I wouldn’t mind seeing him again.

Before I can pull it out and offer it to him, his hands land on my waist, spinning me and pinning me against my door. I let out a small squeak. Like they did on that rooftop, his hands cup my jaw again, his mouth lowering onto mine.

I grip his elbow with my hand, drawing the other – still clutching the business card – out of my purse to hold onto his waist. My palm brushes the pocket of his coat, so I slip the card into it as I moan, his tongue plundering my mouth for the second time tonight.

My card deposited, I grip his waist, pulling him closer. A knee comes up between my thighs, pressing against my core. Oh god, yes.

Right as I start to grind against his leg, it disappears, and he lifts his head. I bite back a whimper because he doesn’t go far, only leaving a few inches between our faces. His eyes are heated as they bore into mine.

“You get your ass into your apartment, Tinker Bell, and you don’t come out again until morning.” His growled words are like a jolt to my clit.

“All right,” I murmur.

His eyes burn into mine for a moment longer, his mouth crashing down again. Pete kisses me hard, stepping away, his nostrils flaring.

“Inside, Tinker Bell,” he bites out.

“Goodnight,” I gasp, turning and fishing out my keys, inserting them into the door, and slipping inside. When I turn to close it, Pete is still standing there, watching me with thin, disapproving lips. I snap the door shut, turning and leaning against it, listening to his footsteps die away as he leaves.

I could still go for a swim…but his words are ringing in my ears. I have never been one to obey commands from authority before, but I find myself setting down my purse and walking through to my bedroom. I don’t even feel like I need that glass of wine I was so desperate for earlier.

Tonight was the best alumni event I have ever attended.
