“No one. Working out?” I ask and pray that was what he was doing.
“Sure.” He smiles, then chuckles. “All done now, though.” His eyes land on the bag of food. “Did you happen to get me dinner? I did just burn a shit ton of calories.”
I slap his bicep. “Ew! Shut up. And yes, I got you orange chicken.”
Reese hugs me against his sweaty chest. “You’re the best.” I shove him off with a laugh and he steps toward Micah with his hand extended. “We haven’t been formally introduced. Reese.”
Micah takes his hand and they shake. “Micah, but I’m sure you already know all about me.” This time, they both laugh.
“Wouldn’t say I know all, but quite a bit.”
A moment of awkward silence passes and I beg for someone, anyone, to swoop in and make it end. Thankfully, Reese says he needs to wash up. He also asks if I mind his guest joining us. Of course, I agree and tease him about working out again.
We plate up food and get comfortable on the couch. After we select the next episode of Peaky Blinders, Reese and his new beau, Trent, join us.
The next hour is more normal than I imagined it would be. We all laugh and gasp at the same parts as we eat dinner. When the episode ends, we clean up, say our good nights and go to our rooms.
It isn’t until we step foot in my room and I watch Micah’s expression morph that I laugh. My room isn’t girly or dirty or cluttered. But the bed is small. Way smaller than his. Literally half the size. In his defense, I didn’t really warn him because I thought it would be fun.
“Great for cuddling,” I say, his eyes still zoned in on the bed. “Best way to get closer. Don’t you think?”
He laughs with a shake of his head. “I can think of other ways to get closer.”
“Oh, really?”
“Mmhm. Come here.” He curls his finger in a come-hither motion. “Let’s see exactly how close we can get.”
For the first time in however many years, I love how small this bed is. And I love how Micah knows the ways to use it to his advantage. Every night and day with him is brighter than the previous. Every one a new experience.
And I never want them to end.
