Just the words instant gratification coming out of his mouth makes my insides quiver, which is very much at odds with the fury I feel. “I deserve to know the truth,” I grind out through clenched teeth.

Xander hesitates a moment and then says, “You do, Rowan. And you will have it. But not today.”

He backs away from me, his golden eyes lingering on mine a moment, and then he strides off. A sudden chill washes over me as the heat of his body vanishes. And I’m left staring after him for the second time.
