“No horns,” Xander says quickly. “As appearances go, he takes after his human side.” He pauses. “And also, he’s not exactly the kind of demon that could harm you.”

“How is that?” I ask, opening my eyes again and looking up at him.

“Well,” Xander says with a shrug, “He’s a lust demon.”

“Ahh,” Ven says. “I see.” A moment of silence, and then, “Well, if you trust him, Xander, then so do I.”

“I’ll reach out to him and have him contact you ASAP,” Xander says.

“Thank you both. I appreciate it,” Ven says. “Really.”

“Of course,” I say. “You’re family. We’re here for you, anything you need.”

We hang up, and I get out of my chair and look at Xander. “I hope she’ll be okay. Maybe we should go down there ourselves.”

“My friend Ryder is the best at what he does,” Xander says. “Don’t worry, Ven will be in good hands.”

I nod and take a deep breath. “So, what exactly is a lust demon?”

“Someone who uses sexual energy to get what they want.” He wraps an arm around me and kisses the side of my neck. “I’m sure you’re quite familiar with the concept.”

I laugh. “You’re one to talk.”

Xander bends down and kisses me slowly until I feel like I’m going to float away.

When he finally pulls back, I say, “It’s finally happening. The first official case of the revamped, crime-solving Raven Society.”

“I think this calls for a celebration,” he says, and his voice has gone velvety and deep.

“Did you have anything particular in mind?” I ask, a coy smile on my face.

“Several, in fact,” Xander says.

He lifts me onto the kitchen table, and we begin.

THE END
