I look down, because if I look at Erik, I’m going to kiss him, and I know that’s not what he wants. Without conscious thought, I bite my lower lip, trying to forget what it felt like with his hands all over my body. His mouth all over my body.

Taking a breath and bucking up my courage, I look up at Erik. I can do this. I can be professional, too.

“You’re right,” I say. “I won’t be able to see Lilli again until this is behind us. And I’ll do anything to keep my daughter safe. Nothing is going to stand in my way.”

I close the book and hold it against my chest, meeting Erik’s intense green gaze.

“Which means if the coven won’t give me the dagger, I’m just going to have to steal it.”
