Erik pulls up a photo on his laptop. “Your target is Sebastian Black. He’s a demon like his brother, though it’s rumored they have different powers.”
The man shown on the screen looks more like some British playboy spy than a demon. Like Ryder, his demon attributes are clearly undetectable at first glance. No apparent horns or wings.
“Caspian reportedly deals in greed, whereas Sebastian can control dreams and desire. Just the word on the street, but you’ll want to verify,” Erik says.
Luciana nods. “I can join on as one of the catering staff. I’ve worked hospitality for years.”
I look at Luciana. “Once we get this intel, we can finish off the Night Guild permanently.”
“I won’t fail,” Luciana says, her jaw tight. “I want my revenge. I’ll make sure the Night Guild is burned to the ground. Every last bit of it.”
We spend another hour talking through details before ending the meeting. As it concludes, I shake my head. Life has taken such a crazy turn. I’m helping take down a criminal organization, I’m suddenly the High Priestess of an entire country, and I now have news about my daughter’s faerie blood that alters the course of our lives forever. Not to mention I’ve found the love of my life when I was sure that romance had passed me by.
“Let’s take Lilli down to the park,” Erik says after we’ve said farewell to everyone. “I promised her a trip after our meeting.”
I nod and smile. How is it that my burly, insanely good-in-bed bodyguard is such an amazing dad?
“And to think that I slammed the door in your face the day we met,” I say, winding my fingers through Erik’s.
“Twice,” he adds with a grin. “I guess playing hard-to-get really does work like a charm.”
“Oh, is that what won you over?” I tease, elbowing him.
He pulls me against him and kisses me until I’m breathless.
“The best things in life are worth the wait,” Erik says when he finally pulls back. “After all, I waited a thousand years for you. And I’d wait a thousand more, a hundred thousand more, if I needed to.”
“Well, I’m glad we don’t need to wait anymore.” I smile and look up at him. Lilli hears us walking down the hall and comes bounding up. “I have everything I ever wanted right here.”
